Would like to hear from those of you that have a M&P in 45acp full size model. Are they reliable and how well do they hold up after good sized round counts.Positive & negative both appreciated. I qualify for Buds Qualified Professional discounts and they have the 4 1/2 with night sights for $499.95.

I bought mine used/LNIB from a LGS for $500 OTD. Mine is a 2007 model, so it was 7 years old when I bought it. I enjoy it very much! Has shot lead, plated and jacketed bullets with no issues at all.

Buds also has Police trade-in M&P 45's, but $499 for new sounds like a pretty good price. I own 3 FS M&P's in 9, 40 & 45 plus 2 shields (9 & 40) and 2 SD/VE's (9 & 40); guess you could say I'm a "fan" :-)

That is a good price and you should be happy with it. I have the .45 M&P thT came with two barrels of which one is threaded. Works well with a suppressor.

Thanks for your views and opinions. I guess one good thing is I work in Springfield MA. and it would take me less than 10 minutes to get to S&W in case I need a repair.

I have about 1500 rounds through mine and it has been totally reliable. In terms of accuracy I shoot my G19 way better, but that's probably an operator issue. Its accurate enough though in case it had to be used for sd.

It's a good gun and I like it.

It's a goox gun and I like it.

I have a G 19 Gen 4 and it is my EDC. Hope that the M&P is as reliable.

I've had mine for over 5 years and have close to 8.5k down the pipe. Very accurate pistol. I changed the recoil spring at about 7k just cause. I have a 45c now and was gonna see how long I could shoot the full size with the original recoil spring but a friend needed a pistol for a while so I let him use it. The only disappointing thing about it is it doesn't make me food. Editing to add that it is still stock everything. No night sights or trigger upgrade. The trigger is smooth as glass now. But still a little "mushy". Doesn't bother me at all though.

Got a mid-sized M&P .45, basically the same footprint a a G19. Best shooting out of the box .45 I've owned. Liked it so much I bought a second. Did the Apex carry kit on both, also black out the 3 dot sights, but that's just personal preference. Finally replaced the factory rear sight with the 10-8 big "U" rear, better for low light and old eyes.

No malfunctions in either, 800-1,000 rounds through each, wear as expected from firing and carry. I'd buy both again and be a happy shooter. YMMV

Just added this sight to mine:

I have just over 2,200 rounds through mine without a failure. I did have a feeding issue when new, but a new extractor (free from S&W) fixed it right up. Time will tell if I like the new sight.

I've just about decided to add a full-sized M&P as my dedicated house gun. I too can get that Qualified Professional .45 with night sights and three magazines at $499 delivered.

But for $455 they have the same deal in .40 or 9mm. But I don't stock .40 ammo for anything else, whereas I have a good supply of .45s. I would be dropping 5 rounds in capacity if I choose the .45 over the .40 and 7 rounds if I chose it over the 9mm. But I already have a ton of 9mm pistols and want something different this time. I've also already got a Shield in 9mm, and it's so good it has made me want to get another M&P. All my other .45's are 1911's.

Can anyone think of any reasons to go with one over the other? I prefer the recoil impulse of a .45 normally over the .40. Ammo cost is probably not a big concern given that I won't be a really high volume shooter. I used to be, but am old now and don't get out weekly.

I'd especially like to hear your thoughts if you have owned both.

Go with a 14-round mag in the 45. It has a good balance fully loaded. Even moreso with a weaponlight up front.

I have a FS 1911 and the M&P seems to have/be a "softer" shooter, IMO. Recoil is more straight back.

I just started shooting 40 S&W and now have 3-M&P 40FS (Police Trade In) from Bud's, SD40VE (my first 40 purchase) and a Shield 40. I enjoy them as much as my 9's and 45's; just something different.

If you're a "45 fan", adding the FS M&P will make a nice addition; 10 rounds of 45 acp should be plenty, but as McE stated above, there are 14 round mags available to use for range or home defense.

I'm old too but enjoy hitting the range weekly, if possible. I don't put a lot of rounds down range compared to some folks; but I'm more of a "quality" over "quantity" kind of guy-accuracy is more important to me than "spraying & praying" LOL :D

I don't think there is a bad decision to be made here, and you'll enjoy which ever you decide on. Good luck :)

There have been issues here and there I can't remember exectly what. Dead triggers I think? I maybe wrong. Member 18DA can shed some light on it if he sees this. I think his agency was issued the MP45. As far as my experience.....I had a used one bought in 2011. I don't know when it was made. The previous owner had installed night sights and a apex trigger upgrade. The gun ran fine with cheap and expansive ammo. I had around 2000 rounds through it but ended up selling because the Glock 21 just worked better for me but as far as reliability the MP45 didn't give me any problems

Well, I own two

Bought my first one in 2011 and have shot about 1000 so far through it. Never jams or fails to function in any way. Accurate enough for self defense work and for IDPA shooting. One has the RMR with a 6.5MOA dot and the other has factory night sights. David Bowie did the RMR sight work and the grip treatment on both guns, and the Performance Center did the trigger work on both. The one with the iron sights was bought in 2014.

The gun is superb in every way so far and much better for me than ANY other plastic frame striker fired gun on the market. The only gun I like as much is my Baer Thunder Ranch 1911.

I've had mine for several years now and several thousand rounds with absolutely no issues bar a catastrophic failure of the magazine spring which was replaced before I even made it to the range (I was checking it out and loading both magazines just to see how hard or easy they were to load). It is the most accurate handgun I've ever shot though I did spend $49.95 and add the apex hard sear. Everyone who shoots it is very impressed. I only paid $479.00 for mine, probably cheaper now.

I've had all three and prefer the .45, particularly if you shoot much beyond 15 yards. My experience is that the .45s seem to have an accuracy advantage over the 9s and .40s. As to capacity, 10 rounds in the .45 magazine is nothing to sneeze at, and they do make the 14 round extended mag if you think it necessary.

I've had the full size .40, the .40c and the .45c, I think the .45c is the perfect balance between the three. I can carry it IWB all day without issue and it shoots great. It only has 8 rounds, but I'll make due. ;)

You'll love it!

Until two years ago, I always kept a revolver as my bedroom gun. I felt a revolver had the edge in reliability and ultimate simplicity of operation (for my wife ). Now, my M&P 45 FS has taken that spot of honor. I feel that reliability & simplicity of operation are comparable to a revolver. However the significantly increased firepower and the ability to mount a weapon light won me over. No regrets. ( In fact, I have 5 M&P's now as I'm that impressed.)
