I was just in my local gun store and saw a "used" but brand new inbox M&P 45. Price tag said $350 with 2 magazines. Dry fired it and the reset is horrendous on this gun. Almost nonexistent. Is Apex the only way to go to fix that? I could tell the gun had never been fired.
My biggest hold up with not buying right now was that trigger

Did it have a thumb safety? If it did, Apex won't work.

None of my 1.0s have a very positive reset like my Shield 45s. Personally, not a big issue for me as the recoil tends to reset the trigger and I'm not a big fan of gripping the trigger so tight it stays put during recoil.

Who told you that reset was important? Are you a competitor worried about your splits?

Not a competition shooter at all. It's just compared to my Canik, Walther & dare I say G!@($.. I had no idea tactile or audible whether it had reset.

I do not believe it had the safety, which is what I'd want anyway

I bought my FS M&P 45 used/as new from a local shop, Fired Cartridge dated 2007. Never an issue and as accurate as I can be. I've never even thought or cared about "reset"; but boy the internet is full of people who do! Most of my M&P's are Gen 1, Except the Shield 45 and a Gen 2 M&P Compact 4" that I got at a great deal. I don't shoot them to "reset", it's not how I train. If it's an issue for you, then don't buy it. If you want a nice shooting, accurate and reliable 45, that's not a bad price. I paid $350 for mine and got everything as if I bought it new. But that has been a few years ago. Best wishes on your decision :-)

For a never fired M&P45, $350 sounds like a fantastic deal to me.

Personally, I'm not concerned over the triggers on my carry guns having an audible/tactile reset because logically speaking, if I'm in a self-defense situation then obviously my ability to hear the reset will most likely be impeded by the effect of firing the gun without ear protection, and at the range I'll be wearing cheap ear protection which tends to muffle the sound of a reset.

Well given that it would probably be a home defense/truck gun, I may give it a 2nd look. As long as it's still there.

I have an original M&P .45 with factory thumb safety. I installed an Apex trigger kit and it works perfectly. It did not improved the reset feel though. So, if I understand the above quote, it is INCORRECT. Typical internet misinformation. If you look at the thumb safety, the parts and how it works, it is obvious that this statement is BS.

First off, you need to check what he's looking to install.

Yes, an apex trigger kit will work just fine in a 1.0 M&P 45. Have them installed in all 4 of mine.

If he's looking to install this:

Reset Assist Mechanism

Note I don't see it listed for the M&P 45, which makes the point mute.

Also note the clause in the description:

For Use In These Guns
For use in all Smith & Wesson original centerfire M&P models in 9mm, 357SIG and 40S&W that DO NOT INCLUDE a thumb safety or Internal Locking System (ILS). In order to install the RAM, your frame MUST have the plugged hole with the "L" and arrow next to it on the left side.

Does Not Fit These Guns
Not for use in the M&P M2.0 models, any M&P models with a thumb safety or Internal Locking System (ILS).

So much for BS.

The OP "complained" about the reset, not the trigger in general. Yes, an APEX trigger kit will work with the safety.

No, the APEX RAM will not. The older sear housings were designed for an internal lock (ILS), not a manual safety. The RAM occupies the space where the lock would go.

In that case, I say leave it. Because honestly, if the trigger reset is potentially a deal-breaker on firearm that you just intend to leave in your truck, then forget about it, you can do better.
Heck, buy a cheap used gun, not an otherwise new firearm, it just doesn't make any sense.

*shrugs* But then again, I really don't understand why anyone would leave a firearm unattended in their vehicle when it's liable to get stolen that way and would be virtually useless in the event in which you are attacked while entering/exiting a location in which you aren't authorized to carry a firearm, especially if kept secured as it ought to be.

Thanks for all your inputs. I'll ride back & check it out. Hopefully it's still there. I'll post pics if so
