I picked up a M&P auto knife recently. It's model SWMP4LS. It's kind of a bulky knife, but it was cool looking and I got it for $15. No box and it has been sharpened. Did I pay a good price for it?
I don't see anything on it saying where it was made. Can I assume it's Chinese?

Well, I found the knife on S&W's site, and on Gunbroker. The action is called the "MAGIC assisted open system". It's got a button to push that opens the knife, that seems like an auto knife to me. It lists at $59 on the S&W site, guys on Gunbroker were selling them at $49. I'm glad I got it. It is a cool knife and I plan to show it off to others who will enjoy it.

S&W knife Model SWMP4LS is made by Taylor Brands LLC ( Taylor Cutlery Co., Kingsport, TN. S&W's licensee knife maker. ) It is 8.6 in long, blade is 3.6 in., made from 4034 stainless steel and the handle is made from aluminum. Weight is 7.8 oz. Some of the parts are made in China, and some in the US. This model knife, as many S&W knives, are often found on the secondary market at discounted prices, and are good quality all around knives for the money. Ed.

Got some decent "spring assist" knives by all the makers such as Sog, Benchmade, Kershaw, Gerber and many others these days. Legal in most areas due to the "assist" factor as it takes a nudge from the thumb stud first. My Sog Trident is very quick and for $59 not bad quality either.
