I have only heard of a couple, and they were in non critical area, I have got a pro model coming, hopefully here soon, I have heard the issue was addressed by a machining change, I am not concerned, I have seen cracked frame rails in our pd sigs, beretta blowing slides off, ect, this is pretty minor

Please go to pistoltraining.com. 62,000 rounds in a torture test that none of us would exceed, and S&W has a life time warranty. You would be lucky to shoot 60,000 rounds in a lifetime thru one pistol M&P is a good pistol. If you like it, do it.

I would not think this is an issue. I DEFINATELY would not let it stop me from buying one of these bad*** M&P's!! You gotta understand, there are mucho rumors being started by keyboard commandos who dont like the M&P because its better than "their" pistol (*cough:glock:cough*). Not that your source is such but it is possible. Sorry if this sounds biased, Ive just met too many die-hard glock folks who cant evaluate anything else fairly.

The pistoltraining.com test did result in a cracked slide in an insignificant area (the pistol kept shooting fine until lawyers got involved) after 62,000 +or- rounds and 7 or so months of being heavily abused. Maybe what you hear stems from this.

Like others have stated...I don't think it's a big issue. All brands of guns have some that have problems...after all, they are all man-made.

S&W's customer service is about as good as anyone's.
