First time buyer

Hello every one. I just got my new m&p15 two days ago and will be shooting it this weekend. I paid 700 which I thought was fair and it is the 1/9 twist rate. Should I do anything to it before I shoot it such as clean it. i plan on using Remington 55 gr mc and pmc 55 gr fmj. I ordered some new toys for it since I went the 22tactical route first to get my feet wet. I'm sure you guys get this question all the time Lol. Thanks every one and I'm excited to shot my first AR.

Congrats Batman on your new purchase. $700 is a good price especially now. I like to run a cleaning rod and patch or a boresnake down the barrel (from the breech) before I shoot a new gun. I'm not a big AR shooter but they seem to like lubrication on the bolt.

Sports at the gunshow

One dealer had Sports for $629 at the gunshow here in Richmond today (I believe I'm remembering correctly, anyway it was way below $700).

The 1 in 9 twist barrel, not the 1 in 8 every one is so fond of.

Nothing like the first time

Shot my new AR Sunday at colonial shooting range in Richmond Va and instantly fell in love. First off I'm glad I went the 22tactical route first as to give me some training before I went bigger. The gun shot flawless and my girlfriend thought I had been shooting for years with the grouping I got all day. Today my new furniture came in which I ordered some of the cheaper stuff at amazon just to get started and will customize more to my liking as I get more use to the gun. So all in all its been a great week since I walked out of my LGS with a new M&P sport and a Glock 23 for 1150. Posting a pick after my initial set up. Nothing fancy but to me it looks sharp.

Glad you're having good results with your purchase. Would have been better off with an M&P pistol instead of the glock ;) , but congrats none the less.

Your scope looks mounted really far forward, do you get that much eye relief from it?

Scope

To be honest I had it on my 22 and put it on just to see what it looks like. I put it on for show but noticed when I looked thru it it did not have the same feel. I'll move it back. What would you suggest and thanks for the advice.

Great looking rifle, congrats! I think the scope looks like it mounts a little low. How was your sight picture?

I've have found after shooting again with it I much rather use the hard sights then the scope. It will go back on the 22 tomorrow. Now what to put on it?

Primary Arms has a special right now on some left over Micro Dots with riser for $89. You can't hardly beat that quality for that price.

I'm sure it's a fine scope, just looked like it might not have been mounted in a good spot. Scopes have a specific eye relief - the distance your eye needs to be from scope to get the correct sight picture. If your eye is either too close or too far, the view through the scope won't look good at all. You may be able to stick with that scope if you just mount it on a different slot in your rail.

If you've decided to go a different way than a scope but still want an optic there are tons of red dot/holographic types. I prefer the open design (think EOTech) to tube designs (Aimpoint), but that's just me. Decide if you want it tube style or not, and then let your wallet pick the optic.
