M&P dead trigger

I sent off an email today, going to try the easy way first. I asked for tolerances on the sear block movement.

The gun is the latest update I believe......HRL....is the first 3. No response to email yet. Called today to try and speak with gunsmith no luck. Was just told to send it in...really wish they would work with people more. As I don't want to send it in and get response within specs or no do some work but not tell you what they did.

I did email APEX and received a response same day was wondering if they had any specs on factory M&P sear or trigger bar.

I still maintain it's trigger bar loop needing adjusting.

If you look at the video posted above by thecatch8, you can see at 4:26, that if he depressed the trigger it wouldn't drop the sear, but if he held the trigger down and lifted the slide, it would release the sear.

This could also be happening with the safety. When you're depressing it, it could be lifting the slide just enough to drop the sear.

-edit-

I'll try to explain my reasoning.

If you open the trigger bar loop a little more, you are lessening how far the trigger must travel to drop the sear, also adjusting how far your reset is.

Right now, if you short stroke your reset, it may or may not fire. If you open up your loop, and short stroke your reset then, it just won't fire, because you haven't actually caused a reset.

You basically have a trigger, right now, with zero over travel, and it's causing you problems. You actually NEED some over travel in your trigger system to eliminate what's going on right now.

Either way, if you do send your pistol to S&W, I would remove the apex parts, as they will, adjust your trigger correctly, and possibly not send your apex parts back. *It's happened before.*

I know the trigger bar is out of adjustment I have one being shipped right now. My concern is the sear block moving, but after reading other forums this seems to be normal for M&Ps for some reason. My other concern is the fact that the trigger bar somehow became out of adjustment by itself after only 400 rds. I'm just not a huge fan of the way the trigger bar can be slightly bent and your gun is dead in the water. I love this gun it feels great in your hand and offers several features that glock does not but the trigger loop just seems to be a huge weak point. Plan on installing the new trigger bar and giving it another go. I do not think that I will carry the gun again though.

Might have been a bad batch of trigger bars.

These things can, and do, happen.

If anyone asks me why my SD arm is a revolver, I'll just refer them to this thread....

S&W's explanation that some sear housing movement is acceptable is BS, IMO. Mine is rock solid in both my 9c and Shield9.

Still no email from S&W called to speak to a gunsmith was on hold for 30minutes and finally gave up. Called again and was told to simply send it in. Guess I'm going to have to go that route I have lost one handgun already by sending it through the mail.

Some few years ago I too had a dead trigger. I sent the pistol back to Smith for a fix. When I got it back it gave me light strikes. I had to send that pistol back 3 times before they got the light strikes corrected. Now it works fine; but I am still leery of carrying it. It is a 40 cal S&W M&P regular size.

Well I sent 3 separate emails with no response. Called a few times trying to speak to gunsmith again no luck. I really don't want to have to send it in seeing as they lost an old revolver I sent in to get the timing tuned up. I have a strong feeling they are going to send it back stating within specs. I put a brand new "H" trigger bar in. No more problems with dead trigger but SBH still moves what I'd consider excessive

They LOST a revolver you sent in??? Um, how did they respond to that? "Um, sorry Mr. cbr6864, but we've misplaced your revolver. We are sending you a coupon for a free hat."

Losing a gun is not small potatoes. The ATF gets involved in stuff like that and it could cost them their FFL. The ATF does not have a sense of humor and they don't allow wiggle room. I can just see it now, "What did you say S&W? You lost a handgun? Oh, OK, no big deal. This kind of thing happens all the time. Just be sure to be more careful in the future."
