I did the field strip on the pistol to clean it, like I have before. Everything went as the instructions said.

When doing the re-assembly, I think I skipped a step in running the slide back. I don't think I held it back fully before moving the take down lever back down. It's together, the slide locks open with the empty mag in, but I can't get it to dis-assemble now.

The deactivation lever is still in the mag well, in the lowered position, when the mag is out. I thought I remembered it moving back to the folded position, I guess I'd call it, after I was thru with the re-assembly.

It's been awhile since I've shot this one, and awhile longer since I cleaned it. I was wanting to re-assemble and dis-assemble a few times to get more familiar with the process.

Where did I go wrong, and how do I correct it ?

Thanks.

Pull the trigger. Lock the slide back. Rotate the lever. You don't have to mess with the lever if you're smart enough not to pull the trigger with a round chambered.
I've done this so much that I can't imagine what is wrong. To be clear, are you talking about an M&P 2.0 full-size or a Shield?

If you inserted a magazine in the pistol after reassembly, the sear deactivation lever returned to it's normal/firing position. What you're seeing in the mag well is most likely the magazine safety lever (it's straight). Lock the slide back and use a light to find the sear deactivation lever. It's S shaped and if new, should be yellow and on the ejector side of the frame, not the extractor side. Push it down per the instructions.

The sear deactivation lever was part of the original design because all the various focus groups consulted on the design were of the opinion that the phrase "pull the trigger" did not belong in field stripping instructions. I agree.

Thanks very much, I'll look at it this morning. Had a long hot day yesterday and was a bit bonked.

And yes, this is a full size M&P, not a Shield.

Sure appreciate the help.

Thanks again, I shot it yesterday, seemed to do like it's supposed to.
