I did mine today with testors model paint but went with aluminum instead of silver so it wasn't quite as bright. I'm pleased.

I used khaki from a Krylon camo spray paint combo on my Shield. Almost matches the lettering printed on the side of the slide about being able to fire without the magazine. It's starting to wear though lime in the S&W symbol. Just sprayed it on a piece of cardboard that separates the cans in a case of pop, used a brush to paint it on and used mineral spirits to wipe the excess off. Do any of you guys know of a good paint that can stand up to being rubbed by your fingers and holster and solvents?

Here is mine, did it with silver nail polish. I can still see residue on the slide from the silver. I don't know whether to keep rubbing nail polish remover on it or just leave it figuring it will wear off when I carry it. The letters themselves filled in great as I probably used 4 coats.

Try gun oil. I had the same issue and couldnt figure out how to get the haze off... (keep in mind I was using testors model paint) Saw a video where a guy said to use a regular patch with some gun oil (I used CLP) and it came right off.

Good luck.

One would think... However when I hit it with a patch with gun oil the haze came right off but my lettering seemed uneffected. Im sure that it probably would take a little off each time and some time you will have to redo it...

I'm still on the fence about how much I like it and I may still remove it. I have a thing for simple.

Rastoff,

It does, also with odorless mineral spirits. The trick to get the residue off is, take a paper towel for example, then fold it over and over until you have a square that is bulky but small. Then just wet 1 of the edges that has the fold and kind of squeegee across the slide lightly a few times. It won't effect the lettering.

Down side, after I did mine for fun/boredom, when I would wipe gun down with rem oil wipe every few days it would smear, finally gave up and it comes off in about a minute if you rub hard.

When I get bored I'll do it, then just not wipe it down for a few weeks if the weather allows, but if I'm sweating a lot it gets wiped most every day or 2.

Pics of mine are in post #8

If it comes off with gun oil, won't the stuff in the lettering come off too?

I chose a more subtle coloring for mine, mainly because I couldn't find any gold polish without glitter in it, but I think the grey looks great on it.

CLP didn't work, so I used a bit more nail polish remover and some elbow grease. Good news, the haze came off, bad news some of the letter fill came off too. Damn, back to another coat, maybe this time I can get it right.
