What effects will the ported barrel have on 9mm, will it affect acc.speed..Act???t

The main benefit of porting lets gasses counteract muzzle flip- letting the sights stay on target longer/ get required faster.
Benefits include faster follow up shots and reduced felt recoil, but they can also send unburnt powder onto the front sight, as well as muzzle flash toward the shooter.

A port will benefit any caliber, just a question as to how much. More spent gasses (generally read as higher chamber pressure) will benefit more than lower pressure rounds.

I have not fired a ported semi-auto. However, I have fired ported revolvers in 38, 357 Mag., 44 spec., and 44 Mag.. From that experience I would expect that porting would have a negligible effect on felt recoil on an 9mm. It would increase muzzle flash but I have never found that to be a problem, even with the magnums.

Is there any real benefit to it on a 9mm?
The maximum pressure of a .308Win cartridge is 66Kpsi. I can tell you from experience that a muzzle brake (same as porting) makes a noticeable difference with that round.

The maximum pressure from a 9mm is 35Kpsi. That is roughly half of what the .308 is.

So, is there a benefit? Physics tells us there has to be some benefit. The next question has to be, does it make a significant difference? Well, for the average shooter, the answer is no. You will get much more significant improvement in performance from training than a device. Further, in a self-defense scenario, the flash being directed up is a serious detriment in low light shooting.

I would recommend spending that money on a class first.

Ported, Shaved, Serrated, Stippled and Cerakoted mine this week. Benefits include faster follow up shots and reduced felt recoil. This is not my EDC and I've not noticed seeing the flash in low light shooting situations.

It's not a huge difference, but it is there and the pistol is slightly lighter. It looks damn cool too.

There are several videos on this subject under Jerry M's YouTube page. He's a real fan of magnaporting his barrel and slide.

Jhawk19: I see the slide has been "ported", which is merely cosmetic. What about the barrel itself? Is there a timing issue if you port both?
