Anyone experienced this?

I added a new M&P Pro 9mm to my quiver about a month ago and use it for action shoots at my local gun club. I love it but have experienced a repeating malfunction issue.

While shooting it I have had, 4 times on different occasions, where the gun did not re-cock itself when fired, leaving the trigger dead. The striker did not reset even though the spent cartridge was ejected and a fresh cartridge chambered. There we no marks on the primer of the chambered cartridge and they fired after cocking the gun a second time.

It typically happens during rapid fire towards the end of the magazine.

Any ideas?

Hmmm the M&P cocks itself within the first few fractions of an inch of slide rebound so it should be recocking itself if it's chambering a new round. The fact that you say is does it while you are rapidfireing , leads me to believe it could be something in the user interface. Are you observing the trigger position/travel when it happens?
Another option would be that the sear is just not catching on the striker indicating wear/damage to those parts or teh trigger return spring.

First thing I would do is field strip it and thoroughly degrease the trigger linkage and sear mechanism. CRC silicone spray is ideal for this, as grease or oil in these areas can cause sluggish sear reset.

If that does not clear the issue, next step is S&W customer service.

Thought of both of those and thats not the case. Better send it in.

Thanks for the response.

Fairly common problem with the Pro. You probably need to adjust your trigger bar or replace it. When the slide moves to the rear it moves the trigger bar to the right, resetting the sear. If it doesn't move it far enough it doesn't reset. You can test it with the gun fieldstripped. Move the trigger bar to the right and feel the sear catch.

Gary thanks for the information, which makes complete sense.

I did send it to S&W but now am wondering if they are aware of this.

I just received my M&P pro 9 back from S&W customer service. One week turn around, not bad.

What was bad is that they did not reinstall the take down lever. It was missing. I could not disassemble the gun and had to send it back again. Bummer.

I know people screw up but man, what a pain.

That is disturbing.

Just got my M&P Pro 9 back for the second time and this time it is fixed.

In fairness to S&W they were not only apologetic for the mistake but the customer service rep I talked to took personal ownership for following the gun through the repair process.

Dave was his name and he continued to communicate with me as the gun progressed and even called the day it shipped to give a heads up it was on its way.

It was gone for about a month but now its back. Three free mags, a fixed gun (completely reassembled this time!), and I'm back in business.
