Being you guys have been so helpful on the Registered Magnum stuff, let me throw another one out there.

Years ago I fell into a blued 4" M&P serial number 47117*. It is in the kind of maroon colored box. I was told it was fairly valuable.....which I took like seller value on any deal as b.s....;-).

Anyways, I am looking for more N frames and may try to move the M&P, so any "real" value estimates would be great. It has nice original stocks and is in great shape. It looks like a "bought and put away" type.
Thanks in advance.

It would be very helpful if you would post some pictures of it. If you have difficulty
posting pictures, you can email them to me, and I will post them. If you do this,

If there is no letter prefix, it would be an M&P dating from 1923-24. Correct grips would be diamond checkered, round top, and NO S&W medallions. If it's in extremely good condition, $400-450 in a private sale. If the box is original to the gun, that would add a significant premium, maybe $100-$200, depending upon its condition.

I guess my reputation precedes me.....:roll eyes:. I'll take some tonight and either attempt to post them or send them to you. Thanks-DB

Looks good except for the cylinder turn line. I can't tell much about the extent of the grip damage, but grips are of the correct style for the period. Box is a little beaten up, but these are not too common in any condition. I'll leave it to others for an assessment of the box's contribution to value.

. . . I think $400 to $500 is a reasonable estimate, in a private sale . . .

Really? How often do others than just a select few see an M&P of this vintage in this condition?

The OP is asking because he wants to sell. If he prices it as suggested, it will move fast. If he prices it a couple hundred more on Gunbroker or GunsAmerica, it will move fast.

If I were in his shoes, I'd do the latter.

About 18 months ago I bought a slightly older M&P in 99+% condition (one small scratch) for $345 from a gun show dealer. But no box. Must have been the proverbial sock drawer gun all its life.

It would probably sell at a somewhat higher price on GunBroker, etc. Advantage is that you can list it at any price you wish, and if it doesn't sell after a while, you can always drop the price in increments until it sells.

This is why I stopped estimating values. Most disagree and some get angry about it.

No matter what it is, it's worth exactly what somebody will pay for it. Any sort of estimate is guessing.
