Do I need to install the plug screws if I am not using the optics rail on the top strap? Can I just leave the screw holes empty without any ill side effects?

Hi,

I keep mine plugged just because I don't want **** getting in the threads.

I'd think nothing spectacular would go wrong, but I leave the screws in for the reason Bulld4wg gives- it's cheap insurance to protect the threads.

Screws

Anyone know what type/size these screws are. Mine did not come with the correct rail or screws. S&W is sending them to me, but it is going to be 7-10 days i am told. I was thinking of just getting the plug screws for now so I can shoot it. I know I can shoot it without, but I would rather have them in to keep some of the dirt out.

Another question

When you have the screws in without the rail attached - Do the Screws recess into the holes all the way or are they sticking up a little out of the frame? Mine came with the wrong rail and no screws. That's the reason for the questions in this thread.
