So there don't seem to be any official instructions included with my R8. What type/size screwdriver do I need to install the screws...LOOKS to me like it might be a torx? Also, is it recommended or needed to use lock tite on the top rail and screws or not?

Thank you!

The 4 silver allen heads have a white teflon bead- to be used to plug holes on top when rail not in use. Do not use teflon or locktite on top of this.

My story on top rail: i installed the top rail with the black torx screws supplied. ...used a snap on bit and snapped off the bit with a 1/4 inch drive! Do not overtighten these screws! I had to drill out the top of the head of the screw just to remove the rail! The top rail scratches the barrel shroud (on the top) during tightening and use. I advise not to use the top rail. Also check the rail itself for "imperfections " as these litttle bumps will scratch the top barrel shroud again!
So- in summary, i snapped a bit to tighten and had to drill out, just to get it off, then scratched the whole thing .
You are warned.

And i love my R8. Its a keeper!

I just got my R8 yesterday...I agree, S&W should have included more specific instructions for this particular handgun...Mounting the top rail, etc..
