M&P Shield review (Single stack 9mm)

Well, it looks nice....but. I don't see enough difference between it and the M&P9c, which my wife already has and likes. I don't see enough difference in it and my Kahr CW9, which I already have and like. (Plus, neither one has a safety on them...which is how I prefer them.)

That being the case, I guess I'll wait a while and see how these work out. Hopefully they won't have any "new model" issues.

I'd be curious how it compares to my CM9. Love my M&Ps, but that little CM9 is accurate and very shootable. I bought one last year to carry vs. my 642 and it conceals much better. Only negative I have is the sharp point and edge on the front of the ejection port. You can cut your finger on it pretty easy with such a small gun. Forgot to add, the cheap plastic sights. I ordered a set of night sights directly from kahr. Did the front sight myself without any problem, haven't gotten to the rear sight yet.

I do! If you pocket carry -- which is the only way I carry -- the size difference between the Shield and the 9c is enormous. I want to stick it next to my BG380 to see how it compares, and the stuff it in my pocket to see how well it fits.

Like you, I might wait a little while to buy one to see if any issues develop.

Here's an interesting question: if S&W "fixed" the trigger for the Shield (reportedly, an all new trigger) then will the "fix" make it to the bigger brothers? If yes, there might be a lot of used M&P's for sale soon.

I got one on the way. My dealer hadn't heard of them until his rep was in today. His rep had some at his warehouse and I have one on the way.

Just had my dealer order one this afternoon, actually he ordered several. S&W replied he should have it by Feb 2013, great by then any bugs should be worked out. But then again since this is an older platform there hopefully won't be any teething problems. We'll see.

I am pretty happy with my PM9, but would love to try one of these out.

Gotta say this single stack m&p looks nice, but apparently its still not "pocket"
Size, and since I carry on the belt id rather have my 9c with alittle extra width and more firepower.....nice gun though....

Actaully, I'm glad the 40 isn't available yet, maybe I can have the money for the 40 when it's released.

Although, with the kick/snappyness of a 40, it might be quite a handful!

I bought mine from that grabagun link, I see they are currently showing only 1 left in stock.

Now that I know what it is....and what it isn't I already have the form factor covered in 9mm. Now if it were .45 they would have a home run instead it is just ho hum.

I will stick to my full size .45 and 9mm for concealed carry, and my 340 PD for back up.

One question: what does this gun do that the 3913 or the 908 didn't do? Your ideas cause I dont know that much about them. Its going to be at or just under $400 too.

You should have plenty of time, we are still waiting on S&W pistols we ordered for the shop over a year ago.

I bought an LC9 about 6 months ago and I said "I wish S&W would put out a single stack mini 9". I'm happy with the LC9 and this new gun dopesn't really serve a purpose for me, but if I hadn't bought that LC9, I would probably get one. Still, the Lc9 is smaller and lighter, and that matters for pocket carry, which is how I usually carry my LC9. I'm sure this new gun will be a real winner.

Just picked up my Shield. Looks nice so far. Can't wait to get home and put some rounds through it. It is obviously smaller than the C. It is also slightly smaller than my PPS. Trigger is better. It has less pre-travel, it's crisper, but it still has a bit too much over travel. Still on the heavy side, but for carry, that's OK. Better than the previous M&Ps. None of my other M&Ps have safeties so I wasn't thrilled with the inclusion of one on this gun. However, it has a very firm click going from either on or off and it's quite unobtrusive so it will be fairly simple to just ignore. All in all, I'm very pleased. Now just counting down the minutes until shooting time....

I own a LC9 but what sold me on the Shield is the striker fired. I have no problem with the DAO on the Ruger but I think my wife will be more accurate with the Smith.

I become practiced with the LC9 but the trigger really is horrible. If I don't really practice pristine trigger control it will go low left every time. I've thought about sending off to have work done but it may be a better idea for me shooting a M&P Pro for competition to just get the Shield 9.

I've bought a couple Mossberg shotguns from them. They are fast to process and ship, and customer service seems pretty good. They are based in Texas.b

Just got back from lgs he had 5 m&p shields 9 mm, very sweet gun but he wanted $460 ten dollars more than msrp, I think i'm going to sell my kahr cm9 and then shop around for the new shield

I bought one today. $419 out-the-door.....no sales tax in OR. The biggest selling feature, TO ME, over the Kahr was the trigger and the safety. It does pocket carry, with the 7 round mag, but looks like a "large" wallet. I bought a Blackhawk SOTB holster and it is very comfortable while driving.
