Is this gun really worth waiting for? I have been on a list waiting for about 3 months. Starting to think about getting my deposit back and getting something else. What are your opinions on this gun and what would be a good replacement?

Unfortunately that question can really only be answered by you once you've had the opportunity to use/handle one. Everyone will have an opinion, but YOU really have to decide for yourself. I would suggest finding someone who has one that'll let you shoot it, or go to a range that rents guns. Hopefully they will have one available for you to try. S&W has found a niche here and I would be hard pressed to recommend anything that would be a suitable replacement. Good luck and have fun! ;)

I don't know if it is worth it or not. can you borrow or rent one and try it out? If you are looking for a single stack 9mm, bersa makes a BP9cc that is similar and well liked. Another option would be sig p938. They seem to be readily available in one model or another.

There's a reason why Shield's are hard to get and other 9's are readily available. With that said, do a search on GB.com for a Shield and you'll find all you want.... they may be over MSRP, but they are there. Unfortunately, seems too many dealers are putting them up for bid and shooting for a score.. rather than displaying them for local customers.

I have mine and love it! As others have said it is a personal choice. Part depends on what you are wanting it to use the gun for? Is there another gun that can meet that need as well as the Shield?

I have used mine in two IDPA matches, carry it conceal, and shoot it a lot. The Shield was the first M&P gun I owned and since then, I have switched over to the other M&P guns to feel the various roles.

Am I glad I bought mine? Yes. Knowing what I know now, would I wait for to buy me a Shield? Yes. What should you do? Only you can decide that, my friend doesn't want a Shield at all, but is chomping at the bit to get the XDS in 9mm when it hits the market. So it is a very individual choice and only you can decide.

You may be looking for love in all the wrong places.

If you are willing to pay a little more prices are coming down on auction sites for the Shield.

I owned a Kahr CM9 and Beretta Nano and shot a Kimber Solo and Ruger LC9 and I prefer my Shield 9mm.

I was fortunate the wait was short.

If you tend to hang on to your weapons and this weapon will be on your person daily like my Shield what is a few months ?

I expect to hand down my Shield to a son or daughter when I leave this life for a place I hope you don't need a ccw.

I most assuredly don't want family to inherit a weapon that is not reliable.

If you can't wait buy another weapon but you may always be asking what if especially if your second choice doesn't workout as expected. (You would think we are talking about women.)

I walked in to my local sportsmans yesterday and bought the last one they received the previous day. Well worth it after a month of research and comparison. Every gun shop I walked into laughed when I asked them if they had it in stock or could get it. Timing is everything.

Yeah you really need to try a shield if there is doubt. But if you decide you do want one try Kittery Trading Post or D&L Hunting they have been getting a steady supply of them lately and D&L had MA compliant ones last night when I checked

I feel your pain though on the waiting list thing, been waiting on several lists for a Bersa Thunder UC Pro 40 for over 6 months now

I wasn't really looking for a Shield but of course heard all the buzz in the gun community about the gun that was unobtainable. Our range has a really nice pro-shop and as I was leaving I always make a trip through to see what they have that I really don't need. I have purchased several used guns from them at fantastic prices, so I always see what or if they have anything new. They had just sold someone a Shield 40 who took it back to the range, ran a box of shells through it and came back and traded for another gun. I just happened to be there as they finalized the transaction. I bought mine to resale but wound up liking and keeping it. I definitely wouldn't have purchased it for retail but considering the opportunity to flip a hot gun that was a LNIB gun, I couldn't resist. It's a good shooter and is very concealable. Now I wouldn't mind finding a 9mm Shield.

I've gone through almost 55 carry guns in the last 9 years and I WILL NOT be getting rid of my Shield. Taking in reliability (my #1 criteria) and concealibilty and S&W as a company you would be well served to wait. Check Armslist and Gunlistings.org. There's usually someone selling a Shield. I think it mostly guys with large hands.

The Shield is worth it, but not the wait. Get your deposit back and buy one today on the internet.... Do Google searches. Invest some time and you will find one at a fair price. Shipton's Big R in Billings has guns. Someone called recently and was told they do not sell out of state. Lazy employee that was busy. I bought 2 from them and my son in CA bought 2 as well.

Wow 55 carry gun. You must have owned them all and a few twice.

Next to the Shield what would you recommend for a conceal carry ?

Unless my math is incorrect, it appears you bought a new carry gun every 2 months? My neighbor trades cars 2 or 3 times a month. She earned her fortune the old fashioned way by inheriting it. It's always intriguing to see what she will pull in with. They say she's legend with the regional high-end car dealerships. Are you saying that you have carried 55 different guns over the past 9 years or you've purchased 55 different carry type guns over the past 9 years?

I waited seven months for my shield and am glad I did. Up to that point everyone was telling me that the shield was the gun all wanted, but no one had seen one. The gun is pretty nice and carries very well too.

I like the 9mm one very much. If you are looking for a DAO single stack thin 9mm, the only competition is the Walther PPS, SIG 290RS, Beretta Nano and the new Springfield XDS in 9mm.

Almost anything in this class is hard to get right now.

I've been waiting about 4 months for an M&P 40C at a local police supply store. At the same time I put my name on the waiting list I asked about a Shield & was told that it could be a year. I would have taken my money back had I known the wait would be this long but I got such a good deal that it'll be worth it. The cost could double but my price is locked in. I have a carry gun so it's not an emergency.

I was just going to post the same thing. Bought 1 from KTP and 2 from D&L for msrp. No waiting, I guess I was just fortunate. First was supposed to be for my wife but I carry it more than she does. So I ordered another (for her). I'm 5'7" with hands to match so it fits perfect for me, shoots well, dead reliable and made from S&W. For me, it's great for what I want out of a ccw. Not sure how someone with large hands will fill about it. A buddy got a Ruger LC9 and it is very similar in size to the Shield. I like its trigger better too, but it maybe because it was broken in though.

The shield is a great gun. I bought one locally today ($429.00) and the guy behind the counter told me they have been receiving them much more regularly for the past month. I still see them going for as much as $600 on Gunbroker, though.

Stopped in at LGS on way home in March LGS had received 5 shields they had 1 left. They had M&P 9c next to the shield. Liked both a lot ended up getting shield glad I did. Had $ for one gun at the time well be getting 9c when they have them back in stock.

I waited 5-6 months for my Shield 40 to finally come in. I sat anxiously
wondering whether the mag drop problem would be solved or if anything
else would surface that might cause a recall. Finally came in last Nov. and
it has proven to be reliable and a comfortable carry gun. Glad I waited it
out and didn't go looking for a substitute. My 3rd MP and the favorite of
the bunch.
