I am wanting to buy my first AR15 and am looking at both the M&P15T and M&P15VTAC. I have seen the M&P15T in person and thought it was really good. But have noticed the M&P15VTAC has gotten a lot of good remarks. The VTAC is only a couple hundred higher, so the price doesn't sway me too much if its a much better gun.

Any recommendations?

I have owned the VTAC for 5 weeks. The best rifle I have ever shot...like it more than my 2 Weatherbys. The extra Viking Tactics(VTAC) features that are incorporated in the rifle are premium. The handguard and sling are great. Took to the outdoor range last week and everyone flipped over it.

VTAC's are tough to locate. I bought mine on GunBroker.com for $1,640 which is probably alittle high.

Added the Barska 1X scope for $130 and a front vertical grip which holds the Surefire flashlight which is included with the VTAC rifle.

The thing is "dead on" accurate at 100 & 200 yards.

One other thing I wanted to mention on the M&P15's.

The "S&W" brand magazine works best with the M&P15's. I have tried other brands of magazines and they have failed to "seat" properly on several occasions which is worrisome.

"Cheaper than Dirt.com" has the 30-round S&W magazine...alittle more expensive but worth it...IMO.

I have the M&P 15T and am very satisfied. I wanted an Optics ready, flip-up front and rear battle sights, and a free-floating rail. The 15T has all that.

I added an EoTech sight, a Hogue grip, a one-piece sling and it all functions perfect. I have no problem hitting the 500 yard target with this set-up. Have put around 2000 rounds thru it and it functions great. I did have a couple jams in the beginning, but I switched lubes from CLP to Slip 2000 E.W.L (Extreme Weapons Lubrication) and it has been the best lube I have used. It stays "wet" without the lube drying up and have had zero problems. I have also used different magazines and really like the Magpul P-Mags($14), CMMG Mag with stainless follower with braided spring($18), and the Tapko($14) mags have all function flawlessly. They are very reasonably priced as well.

Whatever configuration of the M&P 15 you decide should be based on what your needs are. These rifles are quality and are outstanding shooters.
