Hey guys, I noticed yesterday that my barrel nut was loose enough that the sleeve rotates a few degrees in Its locating slot.

I used the supplied wrench to tighten it but how tight does it need to be?

S & w replaced my barrel under warranty about 500 rounds ago, and hope that I don't need to re-tighten this nut every range trip. Walthers p22 says to make it finger tight, but finger tight won't even seat the nut against the barrel due to the o ring.

What did they replace the barrel for and did you have to send it in? I'm still having some leading problems but I don't want to Jack around with sending the whole thing in. I usually just put a little grease on the threads and give it a good twist with the wrench until snug...

I originally sent it in because all the pins would back out after a few hundred rounds. All they did was bend the pins and re-install them which did NOT work.

I indicated that I thought it was not shooting very accurately in the note I included in the box and it came back saying they replaced the barrel but not why.

It does shoot more accurately now. I bought some 3mm pins from mcmaster-carr and replaced them myself, but they still back out.

Clean the pins well with degreaser and the pin holes in the metal part of the frame.. One drop of Loctite on one side of the pin and the same side of the frame split the one drop in half. Put pin in and leave it overnight or better yet 24 hours.. You can still drive pin out if needed easy but it should keep pin from backing out.. you can do both sides of frame and pin if needed.. Pins can still be driven out..George

Oh you can do the same for the barrel nut, clean first.. Here less is more you don't need much at all a minute amount is all that is needed.. Use the brand named stuff it's much better!

I tried that with the old pins and it didn't work, but it was with some really old lock tite and I was hesitant to get any on the plastic frame for fear of it degrading it, so I used very little, probably too little.

I try it again with new locktite and a more appropriate amount.

When I called S&W and asked about locktiting the pins, I got an emphatic NO from them, and they wouldn't tell me why, or what the frame material was so I could check compatibility, so I sent it in.

Thanks! (This thing is alot of fun to shoot and with the new barrel I am able to keep most shots within 3 inches at 15 yards off hand, pretty good for me)

I have done it on a few guns without issue and has always worked for me so far.. Good luck this time! George
