I picked up a used M&P22, love the gun! Have shot several times in indoor ranges and it has been absolutely flawless. No misfires of any kind other than just a couple rounds not firing. Then I took it outdoors in cold weather, only worked properly about half the time in six full mags. Sometimes fired but wouldn’t eject. Sometimes eject got stuck. Sometimes wouldn’t fire at all. Same ammo as used indoors. Any thoughts from the group? Would temperature make that much difference?

It might be over lubed with something too thick which got more viscous in the cold weather. I got a M&P .22Mag early this year, and the right side safety was extremely hard to work. I saw on another forum where someone had the same problem and a S&W gunsmith said to lube it and work it a lot, which I did. That did loosen up the safety which is getting better, but when I carried it to the range it simply would not fire. I was out of town at the house that belonged to my deceased parents, my sister and I maintain it as a meeting place. Anyway I did not have enough proper cleaning supplies so washed it out with some charcoal lighter fluid, shook it dry then a light lube with some old lightweight machine oil that my father had left, the kind that they used on old typewriters and adding machines. Took it back to the range and it ran perfectly. So my suggestion is clean all the old lube out and relube with a very lightweight oil.

I use grease on the slides of all my pistols. I found that grease slowed the slide of my M&P 22 to the point it stopped being reliable. Now, all my 22s get oil.

I agree a good cleaning and some oil will likely resolve the issue.

TW25B Lubricant-Protectant

Try TW25B Lubricant-Protectant. I use it on all my slides. I find this lube 100% reliable. It's temperature range is -90F to 450 degrees F. :)

Well the day I had so many FTF and FTE it was about 25* outside. Two days later I ran many mags through it without a single problem. It was about 45* that day. Same ammo and I had not cleaned the fun. I’ve vigorsly cleaned it since but have not fired yet.
