Hi All. Am on the fence about an M&P22. Felt good in the hand but was $419 and only one mag? Really? Anybody got the pros and cons on them? Also where to find extra mags reasonable. Figured id get something to have fun with while I wait for a 9mm Shield to come around these parts. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Pros: too many to elaborate. Just let it suffice that I have over 4600 rounds thru mine with no problems.
Cons: none that I've found significant.

Where did you find that prices? My lgs has them for $310 and the shield for $389.

It should be in the $310-$320 range. They are just charging that because like the shield they are scarce right now or they are full of it? Maybe both! Someone on here posted there was a place selling the mags for $27 with free shipping and thats the cheapest ive heard of.

That price does sound a bit high. I think I got mine for $369 here in Oklahoma. Here's what I think of it:
Pros:
1. Very accurate for a .22 pistol
2. Full size; comparable to most full sized polymer pistols. Allows you to train with a cheaper round.
3. Unlike most .22 pistols, the bolt of this pistol will lock to the rear after the last round.
4. Easy take down and cleaning.
5. Very, Very, Very reliable. The only ammo I had any issues with was Winchester bulk.
Cons:
1. Only comes with one mag. The mags are a bit pricey and usually back ordered. It took about two months to get some spares.
One Con is really all I could think of. The M&P 22 is a great little gun.

My M&P22 is a great shooter, not a single malfunction in the 800 or so rounds I have put through it. Im not a big fan of the sights but that should be fixable. Accurate for what it is, very fun to shoot. Buds has them online for $359 online with free shipping. Palmetto state armory had mags at $27 with free shipping but they are out for now I believe.

I recently bought a M&P.22 and I love it. After extensive research I had decided that I wanted a Ruger SR22 and went to the shop to buy it. The owner had one there that he said he would let me shoot to make up my mind. My second choice was the M&P.22 which a friend had there. I loaded 2 mags for the Ruger and 2 mags for the Smith. I fired the whole clip through the Ruger, great gun, nice feel, I liked everything about it. Then I fired the M&P.22, it felt more like a bigger gun, had all the same advantages of the Ruger, but just had a better feel to it. I fired the other mag for the Ruger, then the other mag for the M&P, turned around thanked all involved for the side by side test and bought the M&P without hesitation and not a single regret since. I love this gun and I recomend it to everyone.
I like my M&P22 a lot. Like all the M&Ps, it feels right, sure is fun to shoot. Trigger time is trigger time, and .22lr is still affordable. It would be nice if the mags were reasonably priced, it came with 2 or 3, and if the gun were made by S&W, but all in all it's a great gun.
Ya I would do a little more hunting around. No reason to pay that much, just call and ask around. Even ask if they don't have it how much it would be to have them order one.

Bought mine for $365.00 from my LGS. I just received my two mags from Palmetto. Figure what you $ave not usingg up all of your 9mm and train more with .22 .. will eventually pay for the gun.

And my FFL charges $20 for the paperwork. Total out of pocket cost for me was $347.
The savings are better on the less demanded guns. M&P40 for $399 delivered with 3 magazines. Add the $20 FFL and I get those for $419 total, out the door, no extra costs, and with three mags.

Went tonight and bought the M&P22. Was really between the M&P and the SR22. I have a pair of Ruger Mark iii"s and an SR9, great shooting pistols. The SR22 just felt a bit too small for me. Cabelas has the M&P "on sale" for $379. I got $20 for getting their card so $359. I can live with that. But now the waiting until Friday morning. Was trying to call Palmetto today several times but no luck. Will try again tomorrow. Chicago gunsmith has them on back order for $23.97 but $15 to ship them 90 miles. No savings there! Gotta have more than one mag. Thanks to all who gave their advise. Thats the cool thing about gun forums. Real people, real answers.

It's still worth that extra $20 to not have to wait to get it. Show me a $50+ savings and then you'll have something.

Heaven forbid we should show our CCW card and take a gun immediately, or show we have 30 pistols at home already so why not take one right away....
Long guns we can take immediately, but handguns they figure we might be coming in mad at someone and need a gun real quick so we can go shoot them.
We're a bit backwards in Wisconsin on some stuff...

I purchased my M&P 22 at a local Gun and Knife show that rolls through town three times a year. Same price as my LGS. Also got an extra clip for $27 there. I first shot about 100 rounds using Federal bulk ammo. and I had FTEs at the rate of two or three per clip. Then I started with a fresh box of Remington Golden 22lr and haven't had one FTE or FTF since in over 500 rounds.
I like this gun because it affords me to shoot way more often than my M&P 9mm. I also like the reset on the trigger...wished my 9mm offered the reset. Looks and feels almost identical. And, the M&P 22 fits my 9mm holsters too! Thanks S&W.

My 2 cents worth. I got my M&P22 the first week of December and managed to get 4 extra mags from one of my distributors. It fits in my UM holster for it's centerfire cousins. The fact that it's made by Walther may be a blessing as they have been making precision 22 pistols for a long time. It makes a great training gun for the centerfire M&P's. I just got in one of the Colt 1911 22's that are imported by Umarex and made by Walther. The 12 round mags in both are nearly identical, except for the floorplates, which shows that Walther had engineering sence to design a basic magazine that works and then adapt it to different models. I also enjoy my Sig P226 in 22 and my 22 caliber S&W K frame revolvers and my M43C. Even though I reload, it's hard to beat a 4 cent 22lr round for training. Bob!

I'll risk the wrath but, Try a Ruger SR22 before you buy the MP22. It is a bit smaller, but it is a sweet little gun... It'll shoot anything you put in it w/o a jams. Comes with two 10 round mags, two sets of grips, nylon case and lock for $320.00 up here.

$419 is high. I paid $365 from my LGS and bought 2 extra mags from Palmetto Arms, just received yesterday $55.98 free shipping. They accidentally sent me 2 M&P15-22 mags. I happen to have the AR version so, I was OK with them and they reimbursed me with 2 of the pistol mags for $27.00 free shipping. I am happy and got to use them today at the range. Love the M&P-22 Will $ave in the long run practicing shooting fundamentals and save on my 9mm which is getting more expensive.

Quick update. Finally got to shoot my new M&P22. Accurate right out of the box. Put about 400 rounds thru it. Had two fte's in the first 3 mags full. Both on the first shot. I believe it was the spring in the mag getting situated. After that, no issues. Love the feel of this gun. Now if I could only find the 9mm shield I was originally gonna get. Got my 3 extra mags from firearmsforyou.com the day after I went. Oh well. Will be interesting to see if the new spares do the same thing. Ron
