M&P22C General Consensus Pro/Con?

I have had mine about a year. Maybe 1000 or so through it. Mostly CCI, and some others I forget. As long as it is clean, I have no issues. No different than my 22a, works really well when lubed up. .

I've got one on my want list – so this has been great info!! Has anyone had any issues with the supposedly soft (pot?) metal used for the slide? Also, although I don't have one, I thought the Compacts were made by S&W not Walther ...

It is not a Smith, it is a Walther. Made by Walther. It is a total piece of junk. I have owned many guns and this is the worst. Buy the Ruger, you will be much happier.

It is indeed a Smith. The full size 22 is a Walther.
And I am yet another very happy 22c owner!

Just wondering what experiences have you had that make you say it is a "TOTAL PIECE OF JUNK"?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I have a month old 22c only have shot 50 rnds through without issues, very impressed with it, super light, fun to shoot, can't go wrong with it considering the price you can shoot all day without getting tired. Recently bought 1200 rnds from a local guy can't wait to hit the range again.

I owned an M&P 22 by Walther, made in Germany, and as you say it was a piece of poopoo. It went back to S&W so many times with multiple problems they eventually replaced it with an M&P 22 compact.I almost sold the compact without firing it after my experience with the Walther. Glad I didn't. Unlike the full-size the compact is made in Springfield and is a fine gun. I've put CCI mini mags, Blazer, Thunderbolt, American Eagle, Federal Champion,Federal Shok and Federal Automatch through with zero failures. One FTE with Winchester 333 bulk is the Lone Ranger.

sw mp compact 22

very good pistol. 3 inch group at 50 feet. it liked fed auto match once upon a time. not the newer lots lately. will shoot winchester black box m22, cci minimags. pretty much all high velocity without hicups. my son inlaw will hit used coffee k cups at 50 feet. as far as sites, easily adjustable. sited in at 50 feet.

I've had mine about one month now and it has 800 rounds through it. No issues with WWB, Federal Champs, Rem Tbolts, Winchester SuperX, CCI MM and Stinger. Only problems were FTF, FTE and many duds with Browning 1435fps BPR ammo which was definitely the ammo as it had the same issues in my 10/22 and Beretta Bobcat. First 10 rounds at 10 yards are shown below which was quickly corrected with the rear sight adjustment. I did have an issue with the breach block pin walking after 500 rounds and it did it again after the last 300. S&W is sending another pin.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago and put about 300 rounds through it. W-W Super-X and Federal AutoMatch. No malfunctions at all.
My Kimber .22 Conversion on my 1911 would ONLY fire Mini-Mags. So it's nice to have something that will fire standard velocity as well.
Windage is changed by means of a tiny Allen wrench that is included.
Would rather both adjustments were made with a small screwdriver, might be easier to find a small screwdriver if the tiny Allen wrench was not handy. But to be fair, once you get the windage where you want it, you probably won't be needing to re-adjust it much.
I had to move mine a bit to the left to make sure it was on, shot a 2 1/4- 2 1/2"" group at 25 yards with the W-W ammo, then proceeded to blast golf balls and pebbles at my range.
Fun gun, you'll like it.
Here is mine by my two FS .40's.

I took my new M&P22C to the range along with a new S&W22A ($199 closeout from PSA).
I didn't clean either gun before firing like I normally do, I wanted to see how well they did out of the box.

Ammo was Magtech SV 40gr and Federal HV 36gr.

I put about 25 rounds of each ammo thru each gun.
The M&P22C never failed.
The S&W22A had several FTFeed and FTE, about what I expected out of the box. After a cleaning and feed ramp polish, it's now reliable.

I have since bought the threaded barrel M&P22C, another close out from PSA, it was $285 with shipping and a $20 FFL transfer.
It really cost me more than that, my GF liked the non-threaded M&P22C so much she has already claimed ownership.:(

At risk of receiving another "rolly eyes" comment - has anyone seen any problems with the soft/non-steel metal S&W supposedly uses for the slides? Peening or excessive wear? My SS hits the bank Tuesday at midnight and the PX has them for $335 ... :)

My 22c is WAYYYYY more reliable than the Ruger 22/45 lite I had and every bit as accurate.

It will eat anything I've fed it and just keeps trucking. It is also suppressed 100% of the time.

I have two one I bought over a year ago. I have over 30,000 rounds through one when the roll pin in the slide started walking out. It's at S & W now. But that's with over 30,000 rounds through it. :D Other then that it's been problem free, easy to clean, and eats about anything I put into it. I also have a model 63 3" and since I bought the 22C it's become a safe queen. It's also a lot cheaper then shooting my Shield 9 every time I go to the range. ;)

These posts left me with a few questions: Apparently the Walther-made .22 was a piece of junk. But, how does one tell if an MP 22 was made by Walther, so it may avoided?

Reading these posts, It seems the MP 22c and current Full size MP22 are good for reliability. But accuracy-wise, are these .22's as good as the Ruger, or not?

I have both the compact and full-size M&P in 40 caliber. I would like to practice hip-shooting from the holster, but with a MP22. How close is the .22 in size to the centerfire pistols?

The full size M&P 22 is made by walther and exactly the same size as the m&p full size.

The compact is made in house by S&W and is similar in size to a shield.

My compact is more accurate and MUCH more reliable than the blue 22/45 lite I had.

I had the M&P22C and it shot about 4 different kinds of 22lr ammo with no issues. My previous NIB Buckmark had many issues with various ammo choices.
Very, very good shooter, I think a good fit for the hand also. Have owned M&P 9L, M&P9 FS, M&P9C and M&P 9 Shield. I think the compact is an excellent choice. Just wish there was an aftermarket 22lr conversion for the M&P9C and FS versions. Even if there was a conversion option, I think having a standalone M&P 22C would be a great choice to have on hand.
