M&P40 sights issue

Finally got some face time with my gunsmith at the range last week and spent over an hour chatting when we found out we both shoot USPSA at the same club. I'm new, he's champion with LOTS of years of experience. One of the topics we chatted about was sight issues with M&Ps and he was explaining the slight variations in the sight positioning from production and he runs into a lot of M&Ps with the sights off. As he was explaining several of the other workers came around and started listening, one of the guys pulls his M&P out of the holster and start staring at the sights and uttered an expletive and his sights were off too. He thought it was just trigger pull. Next topic was differences in brands of ammo, bullet weights, several variables that can affect how a gun impacts.
Friday I went back to the range and ran fifty rounds each of four different brands of 40c with different weights. 165 gr hit couple inches low, 180 gr hit online. Showed my gunsmith the stack of targets with all the notes and he agreed, 40c like 180 and 200 gr bullets better, 165 gr has a tendency to hit low. Also agreed needed to push my rear sight.
Some times it's the gun, some times it the bullet, most times it's the shooter.
