I run an OEM 9mm barrel on my Ver1 40 Shield. It has the
gap on either side but operates well.

I've been thinking about getting a S&W 9mm bbl for
my Ver1 M&P40. Are they the same width in the chamber area?

If a conversion barrel is available for the Shield 1.0 series, that would be the way to go.

In the full sized & Compact M&Ps you need the conversion barrel (and 9mm magazines) if you wish to insure reliability.

Which brings up a totally different question, I guess...?

Cheers!

P.S. No Shields (of any series) in my arsenal: that's what my 3913 is for.;)

Although many have used a OEM 9mm barrel in a 40, it is best to use a dedicated 40-9 conversion barrel such as one made by KKM Precision. Don't forget to use 9mm magazines as well.

9mm ammo will function with .40 cal. M&P magazines and .40 cal. M&P barrels, but I don't recommend it. Don't ask me how I know this.:o

In any case do as those above say, and get a proper 9mm conversion barrel and magazines.

STORM LAKE makes some of the best barrels around! I have a SS 40-9 SL conversion barrel for my M&P 40's.
