M&P9 magazines - prepare to wait longer

I find all this very interesting. Two days ago I posted that my local store had a bunch of M&P 9mm mags. I said that I would buy some for anyone who asked. Of course they are 10 round mags. Only one person responded and he only wanted one.

What is the big deal about 17 round mags? If I needed a mag, and I did, I would buy what was available. I'm just surprised that no one wanted any mags after all this complaining.

Rastoff,
Did you mention if they were S&W mags?
I didn't recall.
Not many people would offer to do what you were willing to do.
Thanks for your offer!

Wish there was a way to modify a 10 rounder to accept 11. IDPA limits capacity to 10 rounds (plus one in the chamber to start each stage). So I download each mag to 10 except mag #1 at 11. I've never looked at a 10 round mag so I'm not sure if there is a way of doing it. Of course USPSA, IPSC, and steel challenge is a whole 'nother story:eek: I thought about it when you posted this but figured I'd wait until all the gnashing is done to pursue this type of experiment. I've got enough 17's for what I need at the moment.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office just awarded S&W a contract to replace all their current duty sidearms with the M&P9.

The LASO has almost 10,000 deputies.

Guess who's not getting 17rd factory magazines anytime soon?

The rest of us.

I wonder if they are following FBI protocol and buying 6 magazines per pistol?

I don't think I did mention it, but they are S&W mags. For some reason they aren't in the usual S&W packaging. They are just in plastic bags. Even so, the ones I got look brand new and have the S&W logo on them.

Nope...Five mags issued with each gun. (Three with the gun and the other two are "optional"... I don't get why you wouldn't take 'em but...?

To clarify a bit... There are still optional duty pistols allowed, such as HK USP 45, Sig P220, P226, P229, adn others. Even the Beretta can be carried right after a deputy buys it back.

The conversion will take years and as of right now if a deputy doesn't want to transition they don't have to. All recruits are issued the M&P, so over time it will be a wholesale conversion.

I just experienced a great 1-week turnaround time for my online order from Springfield, for six XDs mags. Last January, when the Newtown school shooting panic was at its peak, it only took Springfield about 3 weeks to fulfill my order for six 19-round XDm mags. I've also been pleased with the efficiency of my XDs recall so far, although the repair quality is TBD of course.

I don't know what to do about my Shield - S&W has had my mag order for 5 months and won't even provide an estimated ship date. I worry about non-factory-purchased mags possibly being counterfeit and unreliable.

I'm still stuck with just my original two CA-compliant (gawd, I hate that word!) 10-rnd mags for my M&P9 - - but I simply refuse to pay $40 or more for a little metal box with a spring in it. Vendors at the Crossroads gun show last spring had plenty - - at $65+ a pop.

Sorry, no. I'll wait.

I agree that they are stupid expensive. Alas, even before the crunch, finding a mag here in CA for less than $40 was difficult. I've never seen a 10 round 9mm mag for less than $38.

There is a local gun store that has 9mm 10 rounders for $42. It's the MSRP that S&W makes. I can probably get you a couple if you like.

Thanks for the offer, sir... but I'm okay with two for now, until I get desperate to get involved in some organized shoots or something. Plenty for home defense given my other options, and plenty for basic rangework until I get my muscle-memory worked out reliably there.

Until I picked up this new weapon in springtime, I haven't shot anything heavier than .22 for nearly 30 years. I can tune on two until I get into something that needs three.

If prices stay elevated past around Turkey day I may need to rethink, but for now, I'm holding out! :D

Unless I break one.

I just received my 2 M&P 9-17 round from midway today. Ordered Sunday here on Friday. I'm glad they didn't raise the price on them. Midway USA ROCKS!

I just purchased two 17 round M&P9's for $33.99 each from Midway and the shipping was $4.78 to my location. They have a two mag limit.
