M&P9 Pro trigger gritty

Just purchased an M&P9 pro. The first part of the trigger press is very gritty. I removed the slide and the trigger works fine. The spring loaded safety detent thingy in the slide is what's hanging up.Can it be removed/reworked or otherwise fixed to smooth out the first part of the trigger press?
