M&P9 Shield vs M&P fs + M&Pc+ J-frame

Thanks guys!

What made me pull the trigger was the see the size of the Shield over the J-frame. I wanted this gun as a pocket carry gun since my J-frame is now going to do back up uniform duty when I'm out on the streets.

Title as been changed.

Thanks for the pics. I.m waiting for the .40, since I already have a PF-9.

Great comparison photos! Thanks for taking the time to do this.

I was hoping someone would do a j frame comparison.
Thanks for the pics

I don't even get to see one although maybe tomorrow my LGS will have three 9mm's but I want the .40 so I guess I have to wait, there seem to be some lucky members that already have one, but thanks I will wait for the .40

So does the shield have an adjustable rear sight?

It seems to be the same type of sight that comes standard on all of the M&P autos. It can be drifted side to side for windage, but it is not really an ajustable sight.

Great Job On Comparison

Wife likes the size/fit on the 642 J. .Stock trigger is giving her flyers with the long hard pull.So to make her a happy shooter I started a search for a M+P 9C. At the LGS she picked up a Shield to mess around with and was happy with the trigger break. So are the triggers pretty much the same or quite close to each other, Shield 9/ M+P9C ? Thanks

Some say that the triggers are the same. I say that the Shield is a little bit worst. However if she is coming from a J frame then the trigger pull on the shield will a great treat for her.

S & W did a great job on the Shield. Yes it is close in size to the compact M&P c but for CCW. I found it hides better and I enjoyed the major fact that it is more accurate then I can be at this time. When two old gents 80 and 70 can pick up a handgun and hit the three inch bull at 30 feet as that is the range we are looking for both of us just smiled. His wifes S&W 642 is a very nice 38 spl, also, but we did not hit the bull with it till the second reload. The shield is a nice light easy to carry and hide handgun for self-defense, and it does not cost mega bucks. Thanks S&W.

The 642-2 was longer and harder to pull vs my Shield in .40 S&W.
I can tell you that the person who will be carring the 642 was looking for a long time for a easy to use CCW revolver. When she saw this one she knew it was for her. Her problem is she can't pull the slide back so the revolver is for her and if she can't hit with five then she will stick it in the bad guys face.

Couldn't decide on shield 40 or 642 so I ended up getting both. Kind of disappointed hearing all the drop magazine issue with the 40 so that's why I love the reliability of a revolver. Gonna hit the range tomorrow but even if the mags don't drop, it will always be in the back of my mind...what if?:(

Nice looking gun. I'll stay with my Glock 27...
Love my G4G19 & G4G30 but never liked my G4G26, so I sold it. BTW, earlier post(s) I read that M&P9C & G4G26 are virtually the same size. Gonna agree to disagree on that one, or at least 9C is a better fit for me vs G4G26.

[Flame suit donned] I've read that originally S&W intended the Shield to be strictly 9mm & that's why the unwanted mag drops w/Shield .40S&W... not all but nevertheless too many.

Shield and J frame same niche?

I've been debating getting a Shield 9 or M&P 9c. I use a J-frame Airweight for my pocket carry and EDC and don't see that changing. SO, would the Shield serve that same purpose?

Would I be better off getting the M&P9c for something that may be a bit more than a pocket gun and have a higher capacity (I know there's a lot of arguments for and against the need for extra rounds, but just want to get something that won't fill the same role as my current J frame).
