M&P9 versus M&P9 Pro

The differences are the Pro has 3/4" more barrel, a fiber optic front sight, slightly better trigger, and about $100 more price. I just got a 9 Pro last night and haven't been able to shoot it enough to know how it shoots, or if I'll like the fiber optic sight. It was too windy today to get the targets to hold still for good group shooting. The longer barrel is nice and the trigger is slightly better than my 45. To add to the mix, I just saw a 9 Pro with 4.25" barrel and night sights and they listed a 4-5 Lb trigger.....same price as the 5" Pro.

Hmmm. I like the better trigger and longer barrel, but I am not a particular fan of the fiber optic sight for reasons of durability. The fiber optic element is replaceable, I imagine?

The 5" Pros are designed to be good competition guns out of the box. Hence the Novak rear sights and FO fronts.

I was skeptical about the front sight myself until I was on the course for the first time and acquiring targets was cake because that bright greet dot just POPS out at you.

If you're a gamer, they're great. If not, then that's why they make the 4.25" model...

I have the 4.25" pro model. Comes with night sights instead of the fiber optic ones.

Just ordered a 5" Pro today, should be in Monday... so I'm subscribing to this one! :D

I have the 4.25" Pro(178035) as well. It was only $50 more for night sights and a lighter trigger pull. IMO $50 well spent.

Here's mine. Haven't had it out yet as I had a couple of 40s that needed a work out. 9mms next.

I really love my Pro 5". In the beginning I just really didn't get on with it. The trigger is REALLY gritty. But, after a few hundred rounds down the barrel, the trigger loosens up so much. It's a very easy trigger to read: You can pull the trigger, removing all the slack out of it, and then the smallest press beyond there and it goes bang.

I also found myself shooting a ton better when I focused on the front sight. Prior to this, I would be focusing on the target, with the front sight out of focus. Reverse that. Focus on the front sight, and have the bullseye be out of focus. Very awesome. :)

On the pro model with the FO sights, can the FO sights be swapped out for a night sight by the user, or does it require a gunsmith?

You can pull the sights by hand with a hammer and a punch and a little tlc. You can also install most sights the same way. I've done 3 sets on M&P's now. That said, you need to be careful installing tritiaum/night sights with a hammer as the vials can break. A press is better.
FWIW, I think the pro is the way to go. Longer sight radious , more velocity, better ballance, better resale. $100 well spent IMHO. The trigger is VG right out of the box so you don't need to drop $80 worth of apex parts in either. Sights can be replaced easy enough if you don't like them. ( I do). Some sellers will install the sights free if you buy the sights from them and just send them the slide. hth
