Hi all -

Did a quick search here, but didn't really get me anywhere. I'm looking hard at the M&P series. My question is this...

For those of you who own both the M&P9 and the 9c, which do you prefer and why? While I do hope to get both eventually, I can only do one right now. The main purpose of this will be for plinking, and a possibility of ccw. Thanks in advance for your response.

Have owned both and the only real difference is the compact has a bit more felt recoil and smaller mag capacity. For your purposes I'd go with the full size as it conceals easily and is a great all purpose pistol.

How about doing what I did buy a 9c that comes with two 12rd mags. Use the rebate for two 17rd mags and add the x-Grip you can have a 9c with a 17rd mag if you want

with one 12rd mag in pistol and 2 17rd and the other 12rd magazine

I went with what 812 did.
I carry it with a 12(+1) round "in" and a 17 as reload. It makes it as small as possible. But what Torrejon said is correct. It's a fairly easy gun too conceal in mid/full size. Use a good belt!

Where do you get the xgrip? I have owned both and got rid of the full size. Not really a whole lot of difference to me.I kept the 9c

BTW welcome to the forum. You will like it here.

Next question:

I expected the 9c would have more felt recoil. How much more noticable is it than the standard 9? I've been trying to get my wife to shoot more than just .22. I know the 9c fits her hands well, but want to make sure that she would be able to enjoy it as well.

I hadn't thought about the 9c/extra 17rd mags...good idea there.

Great stuff so far...thanks everyone!

The M&P9 is 2.4 oz heavier then the M&P9c that's a 10% or so reduction in weight of a empty gun. So yes it does have more recoil. But a 9mm really does not have enough recoil to worry about IMOP. Both guns come with three different grips and are very nice. When I purchused this gun last month. I did not want a safty but now I am not so sure that's the only thing I might change. I wonder if you can add the safty to it?
BTW I purchused from Top Gun Supply. What did you use for polish on you slide looks really good

Your getting a "2 fer" with my opinion on a 9 MM's recoil?
Since after 45 years the 9c is the first I've ever owned! I find few auto loaders to have "heavy recoil". Regardless of size. For me anyway, the energy is used up enough operating the action to make it academic. With the bore centerline being as low as it is, and with good ergonomics it probably feels like a lot less than it actually is to me? I've grown (semi) accustomed to dealing with a 12 ounce J frame running heavy +P .38's. And trust me, the two guns are not in the same galaxy recoil wise.

What did you use for polish on you slide
I used Mother's mag and aluminum polish and an old t-shirt. Lot's of rubbing by hand.

I selected the 9c over the full sized version because of size, without having fired either one.

The recoil of the 9c is not bothersome to me at all. It is a lot more pleasant to shoot than a 642 with non +P loads, IMHO.

I'm not so much worried about the recoil for myself (regularly shoot .40 and .357). More concerned for my bride. To say she is frail would be a gross understatement.

I'm not completely sure which way I'll go, but I'm sure that I'll be happy with whatever I choose. Thanks everyone for your input...it is much appreciated.

I have a 9C and a full size 45. Both are fine weapons, accurate and reliable. The 9C is a real winner, in my book. Very compact, still with a generous 12 rd capacity. As for recoil, it's a pussycat. My GF gives it her seal of approval.

You want recoil? Try a heavy 38+P load from an airweight j-frame. That'll clear the sleep from your eyes.
