M&P9c or Shield

I've got both a Shield 9 and a 40c. Both are great guns and they shoot equally well. I've run SD type drills with them back to back and other than the slightly larger hole of the 40 you really can't tell any difference between the two targets.

For me the Shield gets carried a lot more than the compact. Sure, there isn't much difference in size at all until you put them in an IWB holster (N82 Tactical for both) and strap it on. At that point the compact becomes a much larger gun. I also have a full size in 40 that fits the same holster as the 40c and can't tell a difference between the two other than the FS is a little hardest to hide. The trade you've been offered is a good deal. Everyone is different so you might find the compact just as easy to carry than the Shield but you need to figure that out for yourself before making that trade.

Apologizing for rookie question here, but just getting started on CC. For seeing what's easiest to carry/conceal, will LGS let you demo a variety of holster/pistol combos? I'm down to 4 options but have no idea where/how to get started on picking an IWB holster

Most LGS will let you try different guns in holsters they have in stock for sale, but don't expect to take them to the range for drawing and shooting.

Right of course. More so trying to get an idea of what fits and is comfortable

Don't worry, you'll eventually end up with a drawer full of holsters any way you start out. Data point: my favorite IWB design has the two belt clips with a leather shield separating your body from the pistol. Easy to wear all day. Whatever way you go, get one that is specifically made for your pistol model and size. And spend the money for a real gun belt. There are a lot of civilian look belts on the market.

I am really happy w/ my 9c. With all the **** in the news in the last several years, I just wasn't w/ my Keltec PF9 capacity which is the same as a Shield. I carry the 9c w/ the 12 rnd mag in the gun, one in the chamber, and a 17 rnd mag in my left front pocket so I always have 30 rnds available. For me the weight is more of a problem than the thickness, but I have decided I will put up w/ it.

I have all three M&P size variants, the Shield in 9mm, the Compact in 40 S&W (plus 9mm and .357 SIG barrels), and a Full-Size in 40 S&W (and 9mm barrel). Love all three, but after getting the Shield, I wondered if I would ever shoot my Compact again. For me, the Shield is much better for CCW, simply due to its being thinner and lighter. Without magazine extensions the front face of the grip on the Shield is actually slightly longer than the Compact, so your pinky can get a better grip. For some reason, my moderately large hands like the Shield better. Feel them both. Better yet, shoot them both and YOU decide.

Funny this came up. I typically pocket carry a 442, but recently decided I wanted the option of a little more capacity. I have a shield 40 but have yet to carry it. Just bought a 9C a few days ago. Ordered an Alien gear 3.0 IWB for both of them lastnight. I guess I'll learn which one I want to carry soon.

Ok, I bought a Shield 9, loved it. Best carry gun ever. I could sleep with it on at 4 oclock.
BUT - Like some others in here, the capacity for me was a concern. Especially now with people walking in to places with AR's and killing everyone. So I sold it and bought a 9C. Glad I did but it is significantly more heavy and bulky than the Shield - comparable measurements don't tell the real story. But I will live with that for the added capacity. Not to mention my 9 Full Size Mags for my full size M&P9 match gun will also work in the 9C.
BUT - I, now, really wish I had kept the Shield also.
I could have used it as a BUG or pocket gun.

Shield vs Mp-9C

I have a Shield 9mm, and I really like it. Recently a buddy has offered a trade on a NIB M&P9c, and I'm really torn on to trade or not. I like the way the Shield shoots and carries, but the extra capacity of the 9c appeals to me.

What is your opinion, trade or not?

Do the newer 9c's have better triggers than the older ones?

I happen to own both and love them both. However, the Shield is the best choice for concealed carry because of size and weight.

I keep an extra loaded magazine for my Shield that I can carry in a small Remora pouch at 11 o'clock. Not every time I carry. Yeah, I know it takes time to change mags especially under stress, but if I need more rounds in a defense scenario (not super likely) they are there. I find that this combination is preferable for me to the much heavier and bulkier Compact. As DEFENDER88 says, the difference between the two models feels greater than you might expect.

Shield or 9c?

I just want to know what kind of pocket you carry a 9c in??? I read so many threads about folks pocket carrying regular sized firearms. Either you are well endowed and used to getting compliments about your "hog leg" or you have some huge pockets. Pocket carrying a double stack of any kind just doesn't make sense to me. But hey, what do I know?

I bought the 9c due to the increased mag. capacity. I also added 2 full size mags. w/ slip on X-Grip on each one which makes it even a higher round capacity. I use the full size M&P holster from N82 so no part of the gun touches my skin.

9c vs shield

I've owned both guns, like each for different reasons, if carry is most important to you, Shield, no question. The M&P9c is too fat for comfort.

How cross the .357 Sig shoot? Does it beat the frame up?

One thing that I would make sure of is that the 9C does not have the safety. The safety on the 9C is more like the 1911 size and the way it works. Plus it's ambidextrous. I like my 9C with the safety but many do not. I do not carry my 9C it is my bed side gun, so I do like the safeties but they would not be good fore carrying I imagine

Not as bad as I was expecting. Recoil was quite manageable. The Compact is pretty hefty and seems to handle it in stride. But I haven't shot hundreds and hundreds of .357 SIG rounds through it either, and I don't intend to. This barrel was mostly a curiosity for me. I have stocked up on some defensive ammo for it.

I pocket carry my 9C a lot in a Mika pocket holster. Use the flat base pad mag and no problem.
