I've been on other sites asking this question and so far this is unanswered. I have identified most of the markings on my gun except three. On the operating slide there is a BI with a line through it. In the sling well there is an SI HB, could be a 5B HB. The barrel is marked Underwood but the receiver has a 6 digit srial number that falls in the Inland block of numbers. I have the adjustable site the obscures the name under it. I have tried to use tracing paper, magnifying glasses and can not positively ID the name. Looks like it ends in IV. What is clear is a line scored through whatever the name is.

Any help is appreciated.

I think PI is an Inland mark

some of the marks can be difficult to read others are clear it really varies.

Part markings. (check here first) : Parts & Markings / Stocks

Also if you check what some of the other parts are it might narrow it down but often not.

Many of these were rebuilt and the parts were blindly interchanged.

These are lovingly called mixmasters :)

Complete originals are kinda hard to find but they do show up.

I am not an expert but Id base receiver manufacture on the SN to be correct and the barrel to be put on at some point.

Another possibility is that its a newer receiver with mil parts added. People like Plainfield, Iver Johnson, and others made them. Pull the action from the stock and look for more clues.

There are some VERY knowledgeable folks on these!!

Does it have any import marks?

Inland carbines are marked INLAND DIV, so yours would be from one of their production runs. Barrels were sometimes interchanged among the contractors as well as spares being provided to replace damaged ones. It is quite common to find different barrel and reciever makers together.

Most production codes were two letter combos with the first letter being the subcontractor who made the part, the second being the primary contractor it was made for.

O/K I'll take a stab at it.
I think the slide could be a type III or type IV Inland marked with a PI with a line under the letters . Good pictures are needed for a possitive ID.
The stock sounds like a S-HB {Hillerich & Bradsby Co.} made for Standard Products Co. again pictures needed to tell if it's a type II High wood or a type III Low wood.
The receiver probally is a Inland lined out subcontracted to Underwood with a U stamped above the Inland or it could also be a Inland lined out and subcontracted to National Postal Meter with a N stamped below the serial #

Thanks guys. It does have Arlington Arms on the bottom of the barrel, which I believe is an importer mark.

I am most interested in finding out about the scored line on the slide marked B I and on whatever the name is below the rear site.

Your receiver is an Inland Div. with a line through it and a .U. over it indicating it was sent to Underwood. The slide is an Inland with a PI underscored. Stock looks like Hillerich & Bradsby Co. Standard Products.
