It is a little more than circumcision but the work and blueing Job done by Alan Horton here in Houston more than met my expectations. I like his version of the front sight.
The pictures--not so !
Blessings

Ok, I give... How much? I have 700 in a 4" 28 that is basically new. (couple hundred rounds max)

I'm not a big fan of barrel shortening. Esthetically, the roll marks on the barrel being off center bothers me. Your money. Your gun. Enjoy it.

I am usually not a fan of modifying. I love 28's and that would be one of the last guns I would mod. That said...I really dig the gun...looks great and it looks like a fantastic job. It is also a mod that I understand. I love a 28 but I love 3" Smiths. Very cool gun and nice mod!

I'm curious. Does it actually measure 3" from the front of the cylinder or 3" and some fraction there of?

Dave

Looks good to me. I would keep the rubbers on it for shooting and get a nice set of wooden grips for photo ops.

Oh, damn.
That is nice.
I'd keep the Pachmayr Grippers, because they are damned hard to beat for shooting comfort.

Maybe I should get that 6.5" barrel 38/44 and have it converted to .44 Spl. Would make a helluva .44 Spl target/hunting gun.

Interesting although unless doing the work yourself the conundrum seems to be why shorten a Model 28 when shooter grade 3.5" Model 27's exist ?

Unless maybe if you RB the frame hard chrome it and add a set of finger groove combats...then you have a psuedo 628 snub RB.

Responses, in no particular order :
It was shortened to 3 1/8 " from the forcing cone.
I did it because I have three shooters that I have picked up here and there. This one needed bluing, the roll mark was not particularly well done to begin with and was barely visable. It presented itsownself to be eligible.
I like the looks of snubbies but not the size or weight---so, therefore.
It shot a quarter size pattern from a ransom in Alan's test firing at 25 yards.
Cost was about $550.
Alan tempted me to take one of the other 28's to a .44-----mebbe.
I will get some Ahrends for it---$.
I just love shooters and projects.
Blessings
