M37 w/ weak frame logo

Today I got to see my "new" Model 37 from ca. 1972 at the shop.

After getting over jumping on the new shop guy who SLAPPED CLOSED my cylinder, I looked it over. The frame has a very dark, nearly black finish as I think is expected. What surprised me was that the logo on the left side of the frame looked like what one would expect to see on a refinished, polished steel frame or sideplate. But with it being an aluminum frame, this seems a little unlikely.

Then something tickled at the back of my brain that maybe this was a known/common thing with aluminum frames of the ere. Weakly stamped frame logos. Am I pulling up a false memory, or is this a thing?

Now that I've seen it, it is easy to see in the sellers pics (and I didn't notice before).

I looked at my Model 37 and it's a bit better, but certainly not perfect.

That gun doesn't look refinished to me the older ones had more of a gloss black finish to them compared to the newer Aluminum frames ones today, and you are correct a bit more involved in redoing the finish on a Aluminum frame gun. Birchwood Casey sells a Aluminum black that ain't worth a hoot. I too would have jumped the guy for doing that. The gun would have got a very thorough going over before I took possession of it.

Here are a '64 3" and a '69 2". Both logos appear "normal" to me.

Looks fine to me, just normal wear. I wouldn’t worry about the weak trademark stamp. It should make an excellent carry gun.
