M41 Performance Centre, QC issues ?

Hi Andyo5. not that I can see.

Hopefully I can get to the range tomorrow and see how she shoots.

If the barrel is all good, shooting straight with no key-holing, I think that
I will take care of any further "smithing" that may need doing from time to time.

I think it would be quicker, safer and much less disappointing.

and BTW, I have STILL not heard back from S&W........

They are probably too embarassed to give you a call. Its not good business to look after folks this way at all. A proper apology is in order especially after the extreme poor service you have been shown and given by them.

Range report, just in.....
Drum roll please ..................

Ok, so I managed to get down to the range this morning, and decided to take my time and get set up on one of the practice ranges.

25 meters off a sand bag............ ( second hand and well used and patched target )

First group of 3

1%20-%20First%20group%20of%203%20shots%20%2025%20meters%20B%204%20sight%20adjust%201.jpg

Adjust the sight a bit, 3 more shots and ...

3%20-%20Third%20group%203%20shots%20%2025%20meterssight%20tweaked%201.jpg

Tweak the sight a bit more and ....

Then on to 10 shots off hand at 15 meters

and again

100 shots in all ( CCI SV ) , no sign of tumbling or key-holing and not 1 failure of any kind !!

Finally it looks like I have a straight shooter.

Now I just have to work on my technique !

Just checked my emails, and S&W have replied !

They are looking into it ..........

Interesting that you got two positive results on the same day, after all that waiting. I'm glad that your gunsmith got the gun working properly. You should remember him for future reference.
Let us know what S&W says if they respond further.
FWIW...shoot only standard velocity ammo in your M41 if you want it to last. That has been my experience, anyhow. If you want to shoot the hot stuff, buy a Ruger.

I would suggest getting a Victory if you ever wish to shoot the Hv ammo in it. They seem to be working out pretty good on their own as well lately. Glad to hear your 41 is finally working good for you. Hope they groveled on the phone to you.

Thanks Barrie, but not expecting a call from S&W, too hard with the time difference etc.

They did send me an email saying that they were looking into it....

I'll let you know if they ever get back to me on this, but I am expecting the standard reply of "sorry, we will try harder" " we don't know how this could have happened" etc. ...

A nice S&W gift pack of goodies ( a couple of M41 magazines and other associated parts, springs, firing pin, extractor, frame pins, tee shirt, pistol range bag etc. ) would be a nice gesture though. ( just 'cos they are impossible to get down here )

And CCI SV is all I ever feed my M41.

I'll shoot in a comp. this Saturday and let you know how she performs on the day. Fingers crossed my issues are behind me.

Photo for reference:

2007 M41 thousands of rounds shooting Steel Challenge Competition. Not one problem.

I have had the pleasure of firing a Colt Python just last summer. It was a 357 Mag which had a fairly good trigger on it. The owner gave me 5 rounds to try and I outshot him with it. He's never offered another chance since. I am still laughing about that day as he is a good friend of mine.

I know the OP kind of flamed Colt saying he would expect this issue from them and it was probably just in fun, however, you will almost never find a problem like this on a Colt. If you did, it would be extremely rare. Not weekly issues like on this forum, and never from a Custom Shop build. Check the old ponies out sometime. You might have an epiphany.

Glad you finally got it straightened out though. Also glad it wasn't me going through that process, heads would roll. It must have took some patience to suffer through all that incompetence. Hope it lasts for you.

Colt was a very good product but the extra attention to detail and the cost it incurred was a deciding factor in the discontinuance of it's revolver line of pistols. That discontinuance is also what has driven the prices on Colts to some astronomical levels. Let's hope that doesn't happen to S&W.

Correct iPac, i was just shooting the breeze, and "Colt" was the first name that came to mind.
Heck, I have never even held one, let alone fired one.

Hope nobody takes offence at my attempted humour :o

I made a negative comment about the Python double action trigger. Every one I have tried stacked heavily and was not nearly as nice as a S&W.
But on the other hand, I have shot several Colt Match Target pistols (target version of the Woodsman) and loved them. I had a chance to buy one for $600 about 20 years ago and probably should have done it. Thats' one pistol I'd like to see resurrected by Colt. But there would be so much market competition from Smith, Ruger, Browning and others that it probably would not be profitable at its previous level of quality.

Just back from the range.
Shot a 476 / 480 with zero issues and no key holing !!

So far, so good........ fingers crossed that she is now a good one :)

............and still no reply from S&W................

It's called "Mandar" and can be shot rim fire or centre fire, revolver or semi, optics or not, two handed unsupported.

two magazines, 6 shots in each.

Targets are turned @ 90 degrees, then turn to face the shooter, for various times that are stage dependant. ( 30 seconds, 2 seconds, 4 seconds )

48 shots in total,

First stage
18 shots from 25 meters, 6 in 30 seconds, score and patch , then 6 - reload - 6 in 30 seconds. score and patch

second stage, 1 shot in 2 seconds, 6 - reload - 6 times from 15 meters. score and patch

and then

third stage , 2 shots in 2 seconds - reload after the first 6 shots, repeat, score and patch,

then 4th stage, 6 shots in 4 seconds all from 10 meters. score , patch and done:)

So all 48 shots in the 10 ring gets you 480 points.
drop a shot out into the 9 ring and that just cost you a point.

So for my shoot today, I got 44 shots in the 10 ring and 4 in the 9.
( 440 + 36 = 476 )

drop a shot or miss the target, and you drop 10 points......

It is also run as a handicap match. Every match that you shoot is scored and is used to calculate your handicap. ( no idea what mine is )

Then, when there is a medal match, the handicap gets added on to the raw score, winner takes all !!

We also do bullseye ( and many others ) , single handed @ 50 meters........... which I am working my way up to !!

Very similar to our style of shooting other then we only load 5 at a time in 2 mags. WE also use yards instead of metres as well. Our Ranges run from 25 yards and 50 yards most of the time altho our indoor range is only 60 feet.

Cool Barrie, yes there are many different disciplines that we can participate in.
And thinking about them, they all teach both safety and situational readiness.

Pretty cool :)

Thats our 2 main things as well. I would suspect its the same world over for the safety measures. Like everyone else we don't wish to ever see anyone hurt. I think its one of the Very Best Hobby Sports in the world in to-days society. I always feel Great after shooting for a hour or 2. All stress's in life are relieved. I always go home with a big smile.
