M41 Performance Centre, QC issues ?

So, after a busy Xmas period, off to the range tomorrow morning for a bit of a shoot, and hopefully there also is a comp running.

Put the target grips back on my M41 today and gave it a good looking over / clean / oil.
She is looking fine :)

Will let you know how we get on at the range.
Fingers crossed I have no issues !

Oh, and STILL no contact from S&W...........

I suspect they are quite embarased over this issue and hope that you will just go away. I agree with some extra's like the range bag and about 4 more magazines shipped to you. A Nice Ball Cap as well would be in order also.

Okay, back from the range.
MY M41 performed flawlessly, nice round holes from 25, 15 and 10 meters, with nice groups(at times)

It is very obvious that I have not shot for >3 weeks :(
Oh well, just have to practice more !
At least the 41 is performing as she should now.

I'll send S&W another follow up email and give them a chance to get over the Xmas break and get back into the normal flow of business.

Must say that I am VERY suprised that they have failed to respond so far.......

Gents, an update ( of sorts )
Sent S&W another email last night..... and also BCC'd James Debney ( S&W CEO ) in on it.
About an hour later, i received a "read receipt" from James.

Nothing in the emails this morning......

Well, at least I know that the CEO of S&W is now aware of the QC "journey" that I took, and maybe he might be disappointed enough to actually do something.

I'll keep you all posted :)

Actually all you know is someone read the email. I'm sure he has someone screening his email, just as they screen his regular mail and forward the ones that are considered worth doing so. Sorry to be cynical, but I know first hand how big businesses work. Anyway, good luck in your endeavors!

True.
No reply as yet..... maybe James is getting himself up to speed on this case ?

Maybe you should email him with the URL to this thread. It would be interesting reading.
BTW, I just thought of something. The barrel on your pistol is not one of the standard 5 1/2" or 7" barrels. Actually, it looks a bit like one that has been offered by Clark Custom Guns in Louisiana. I wonder if it may be a sourced barrel that was not inspected prior to assembly.

@andyo5, pistol is a standard Performance Centre version.
The barrel is machine with an integral slide, and has all the "normal" S&W markings, as well as the "Performance Centre" logo.

I cannot imagine a world where any reputable gun smith would fit an inspected part to a premium product, not once, but TWICE !

I would also be very surprised if upper management at S&W were not aware of this forum.

ps. still no reply from S&W...........

Not sure what this crud is around the rear sight dove tail. Almost looks like rust ?
Got a brush to it and got most of it off.

Could it be some sort of rosin or loctite compound to secure the rear sight ???

I'm sure it is a loc tite type product. I had that on the barrel screw on a new Buckmark pistol. I thought it was rust too at first look.

Being aware and monitoring, let alone taking advice or action on problem resolution, are unfortunately worlds apart. I was on a GM Truck forum for 10 years, and GM even had 'reps' who would chime in periodically to help members, but their power was very limited and often not much help other than to post they were sorry the member was having a problem. I was also on a Pentax camera forum for a similar period of time and although Pentax would sometimes interface with the forum owner in the form of an interview on new products, there was no evidence of them monitoring the forum, let alone actually helping someone.

So it's not a problem with just US companies, but global companies as well. Small 'mom and pop' type companies seem to monitor forums and respond to forum members far better than big businesses do, and that's sad.

I believe that totally as the smaller the company the more it means to them. Some companies get too big and figure that they can get away with almost anything and thats good enough but we the buyers know better. They need us more then we need them. I can go down the road and buy someone else's product instead and badmouth the loser all over the place.
