Just bought a new M60, stainless steel revolver. First time to the range, the first dozen or so rounds fired perfectly. Did some double action, rapid fire. On the 3rd cylinder full, the cylinder wouldn't close after reloading and I notice the cylinder bolt was still down. After wiggling the hammer and trigger the bolt popped up an I closed the cylinder and fired a few rounds. The trigger malfunctioned again, binding slightly and not turning the cylinder. I let pressure of the trigger and then everything returned to normal. Fired 50 or so rounds after that with no problems, rapid fire DA and slow single action. After cleaning, I did some dry firing and have not been able to reproduce the malfunction. Any thoughts? Could the rebound slide have hung up and caused the problem? I have'nt had a chance to contct S&W yet - possibly to return gun to them for evaluation. Being a carry gun, reliability is critical. Thanks in advance for any thoughts --------

Hi Corpsman,

I have a M60 with the IL Interlock Key... Now I've never had the problem you have mentioned, but I did read somewhere that the IL has known to lock up and I believe it mentioned it did have an effect on the cylinder.

Now I most certainly could be wrong with that article. It has been more than a couple of minutes (exaggerating) since I read it and at my age the neurons inside the brain just don't want to fire like they used to.

But I know that finding info. on the M60 seems to be hard, at least in my searches, so I wanted to share this with you as a possiblity.

Take your key and follow the booklet that came w/your revolver and fully lock then unlock your revolver. See if you feel anything loose or out of sorts and make sure that it appears to work correctly. It had seemed to me alot of people were b@$%#ing about this safety feature.

I hope this helps and you are allowed to find the true culprit. Intermittent problems are difficult to find.

Thanks for the info Phoenix. After I got the gun working and cleared the malfunction, I did just as you suggested. It appeared to be unlocked, but who knows, maybe that was the problem. After cycling the lock a few times, it has worked properly, but a little early to feel comfortable. A few more boxes of ammo thru the gun are in order.
