I recently purchased one of these M&P M7 bayonets new as a gift for a friend. The first time she unsnapped it, the snap broke. S&W's customer service response: since it's been discontinued, there's nothing they can do. So much for their "lifetime" warranty. I even own stock in S&W as well as in American Outdoor Brands, but after this firsthand experience, I'm wondering why I should. Clearly a second rate operation.

Have a pic of all the parts? Easy fix as have been replacing assorted snaps on military gear for 50 years. Have a very nice shoulder holster that the snap was worn out. Unfortunately sold all my equipment but found a few snaps on line and made do with other punches, like new now

Yes, snaps can be readily replaced. The point is, she shouldn't have to. It's a brand new item for which a defect was immediately apparent.

Do you have the sales receipt? If so, make a copy and send it to S&W customer service and tell them to send you either a new M7 scabbard, or an M9. The M7 bayonet will fit in either.... It's their duty to honor that warranty!

The sales info was provided to S&W customer service. That wasn't a factor in their reply. Because they no longer stock the item, they just couldn't care less about making it right.

It’s disappointing that they treated you that way. If they can’t replace it, you should be able to get a refund. This can be repaired inexpensively at a shoe repair shop, tarp & awning company, or luggage repair shop. If you are a reasonably handy fellow, buy a snap kit at a craft or sewing store (Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, etc.). Drill out the old snap, put the new two halves together and bang them together with the tool included in the kit and a small hammer. Amazon has many kits, some as low as $7.99 and $12.99. If you have other “GI,” etc. equipment, it’s handy to have a repair kit. It’s a shame that you may have to do this. Also, eBay has some M7 scabbards for sale.

I understand your feelings. You are correct- it should not have broken in the first place.
However, I have better problems to worry about.
I have had so many holsters, pouches, etc in my life with snaps that I have had to deal with many broken ones. So, around 50 yrs ago I bought the small anvil and punch that "set" snaps. It is a 5 minute job to replace a snap.

I bought a S&W fixed blade knife *once*. Quality was unimpressive.

As for the snap, its a cheap and easy fix. A lot easier than trying to get S&W to stand behind it.

Now the fact that S&W's customer service staff don't have the authority or common sense to just have you send it in so they can fix the snap, or better yet just cut you a check for $15 for a basic snap set speaks volumes.
