Mag button issues

I have a brinks 4046TSW that’s having an issue. If I have a full mag inserted when I push the mag release nothing happens but if the mag is empty it releases just fine. Additionally, with a full mag, when I try and pull it out it feels like it’s caught on something. I can only assume that it’s the mag release. Any suggestions?

The magazine release button might be screwed in too far. To adjust the button, you must push in the detent that is located at the 5 o'clock position of the button, then rotate the button. Try 1/2 to one full turn and see if the problem improves.

Tried that, it didn’t work. It feels like the mag is binding on something before it fully seats. I looked down the well from the top as I inserted a mag and I can feel it but I can’t see it.

I have experienced two different issues with mag release in different pistols.

1. With an extended mag release the cut out in the catch that the mag passes through was too narrow, pushing on the side of the mag, causing it to bind and not drop free, with the catch held down.

2. The catch engagement cutout in the mag being slightly out of spec making it hard to engage or drop free.

The latest issue with #2 has been with some new Mecgar mags where I have had to lightly remove material from the top of the cutout to make them both engage and release in my pistol.

Given that an empty mag drops free and a loaded one will not release I would suggest #2 may be the culprit with the rounds pushing downward on the mag, especially if other mags work as they should.

Could also be damage to the top of the magazine, where it engages the bottom side of the ejector lever. If this is the case the top left side of the magazine will be damaged......or the extractor bent/damaged. Also, check the mag springs and damage to the follower.

One other rather obscure problem is with plastic insert in the slide that pushes down on the ejector to engage the magazine safety. These white plastic plungers can get pretty chewed up, and cause some problems with mag insertion.

Assuming there's a round in the chamber that was fed from the magazine, the next round down might have moved far enough forward to interfere with the mag dropping.

Ah, S&W mags or after market? Magazine body might be bulging.

If you have more than one magazine, does the problem happen with all of them? I don't have a clue as to fixing your issue but no one else has asked about multiple mags.

And is it a factory mag or aftermarket?

All 6 mags are factory and all work perfectly in my CHP 4006. All the mags drop free when empty but when I say it’s binding, it’s binding to the point where I have to lock the slide back and push down on the mag to get it moving. In contrast, when I insert a mag into my CHP gun they lock and even wiggle a little bit but are solid when I release the slide. In the brinks gun if I insert a full mag, release the slide and chamber a round the mag will release. I find it strange that the mag tube would distort enough when fully loaded to bind in the gun. After all this isn’t a glock.

Inspect the mag well, look for displaced or bent metal, make sure the trigger draw bar is not bowed into the mag well. Barring that, I'd say that there is something wrong with the mag release.
