Brand new owner, first S&W and bought a Sheild compact with Crimson Trace laser. Bought this due to many high praises and when I brought it home it was impossible to get more than one shell in either mag. I took them out to the garage and put a drop of oil on several key spots and then took a 7/16 open end wrench and worked the slide up and down about 50 times. I was able to then get 5 shells in the 7 shot mag. Are stiff springs normal and if so what mag loader do you guys use? I paid $440 out the door for this set up so I think I did OK.

I thought I was a wuss.....

I'll second the Uplula. My local walmart had them on sale a week or so ago for $15(normally 28ish)

Once you get them loaded with as many rounds as you can leave them loaded for a while. That should help.

Same song different gun. The mags on my LC9s are pretty stout.

I have 1200rds thru 3 eight round mags and they are nearly as stiff now as they were when I first used them. Uplula is the only way to go!!!
Dave also try E bay! I got mine there for around 28$ shipped, I believe it was from E Cop, Great to deal with!

Dave49, after disassembling & 'thoroughly' cleaning your new mags warm them up real well (buy your wife new cookie sheets and use the old ones to spread out the pieces) & give them a light double spray of silicone spray. You can use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm them up. Be careful not to melt or distort the followers. You can also use the oven set low but, make sure you wash all parts in 'soap & hot water' first. Putting things in a hot oven w/oil residue on them will not be appreciated. 
My wife likes her new oven by the way, after 60 yrs I thought I was smarter than that. Anyway, unlike oil, the silicone dries leaving a nice slick surface that does not attract dirt.

Thanks everyone for all the info and the warm welcome, I am a retired journeyman machine repairman but Arthur has limited my tinkering. Got back into shooting (Ruger 10/45 pistol) and love it. Have been carrying a Beretta 21A for cc and realized I could use a little more stopping power. Discovered that I can shoot about 10-15 rounds in my Ruger 38 LCR before pain sets in so I went with the Shield to carry. Looking forwards to taking this pistol to the range and also finding a good holster. A friend uses the Veracarry and loves it over his $130 holster. Take care everyone.

Also look into the Talon Grip Tape , IMO give a better feel of the grip, Helps when Uncle Arthur speaks up :O

Doubtful. Springs get weaker from repeated compression/relaxation cycles, not staying compressed.
