In addition to S&W 10-14 & 15 round magazines, some years ago I purchased from an advertiser on Gun Broker 17 round stainless steel magazines for my 5906. These were listed as fitting flush with the bottom of the grip, which I found to be interesting and correct. The extra space came from the unusual spring arrangement. They were fitted with a clock type constant wound spring, the free end riveted to the top of the magazine, and the spring coil fastened to the magazine follower. The spring unwound as the cartridges were loaded. The packing was marked RAM-LINE.,INC* *A Registered Trademark of Sturm-Ruger & Co.,Inc. With an address, Grand Junction. Colorado. These were apparently available in the late 1980's as I first saw them mentioned in an article (Use by Police of a combination of - hand gun - S&W 5904 and a long gun - Marlin Camp Carbine both utilizing the same 9mm magazine ) in the May 1989 copy of S.W.A.T magazine
