Hey all! One of my 2 NIB magazines fails to lock the slide open after last round. Is this an issue or not a big deal? Only have about 100 rounds shot thru gun and mags. I only load them to 15 rounds as the 16th round is hard to load. Is there a quick fix or not to worry? Thanks

I haven't had that problem. I would call S&W in the morning.

Thnx Jrich. Doesn't affect pistol operation so i'm a little hesitant to call S&W. Gonna break down both mags now to clean so maybe it'll help.

Me personally I wouldn't break the mag down yet. Maybe shoot some brake cleaner in the mag. The problem is only with one mag that says something. I don't see S&W not making it right. I think if you take it apart and mess up something or they call tell you took it apart, They could say you messed it up and now it's your problem.

I know it doesn't affect the gun so to speak. I have to look at worst case. If it came down to having to reload in fight I would want the slide to lock back on last round. I am by no means a speed shooter or in competition, but I do practice reloading and mag changes. I want to be faster and more proficient than my enemy. Remember seconds count in a fight or flight situation.

In the end it's your gun and you're free to do what you wish, just my thoughts.

yeah JR the reloading thing was my issue. Broke em both down already and cleaned using the s&w manual that came with it. Just cleaned the plastic upper part. Loaded the empty mag, racked the slide and they both locked the slide open. Gonna try again live and loaded in the next couple days to see how it does. Thanks for the input.

Had the same problem with one of my magazine brand new and I opened it to find out it was crooked spring and it would bind when it was compressed so I straighten it out and my problem was solved!

I had the same issue with Mag.

My Mag Spring was binding, so disassemble, Check spring, Clean and I bet your good to go!

I had a similar problem with one of my four SV9VE mags. The other three worked fine. When I compared the four mags side to side I noticed that the follower on the problematic mag did not extend as far out the top of the mag body. I disassembled the problematic mag and noticed that the mould flashing on the bad follower had not been fully removed. This prevented the follower from fitting the contour of the mag lips.

I used some fine sandpaper to remove the flashing and polish the outer sided of the follower -- problem solved!

Yeah i cleaned the little plastic thingy real good, specially in the crescent shaped cutout and now works fine. The cutout fits in the slide lock mechanism to lock it open.
