I just got my mp15x last night. it came with the magpul magazine.

If I want to get metal magazines.... will any ar-15 mag fit the mp15?

Anyone know of a vendor that sells the magpul mags w/ the sw logo besides smith and wesson?

Oops...didn't mean this for the 15-22 thread. Can a
mod move it to the main long gun thread.

Hopefully someone can move this, the the S&W M&P15 is "just another" AR15 clone and M16 magazines will fit fine.

The Magpul magazine, though, is one of the current "darlings."

Logo on the magazines?

My guess is the only pmags with the s&w logo on them are from the magazine rebate program, its possible that you could get them from the S&W website but I would call first to confirm this.

I have 5 magazines w/ the S&W logo and 6 without. I, too, think that they came w/ the rebate program but I cannot be sure.

A lot of help I am!

I can tell you this much. I have a M&P15A model and found out today that it doesn't like the metal C-Products AR-15 magazines. These function great in my bushmaster but the S&W has a problem with the mags getting caught and not wanting to eject back out of the gun. I even had a couple FTF. So in short, not all mags will work with the S&W.

Magazines for mp15

I got my rebate mags about a month ago, they were the standard pmag with out S&W logo. I really like the pmag compared to others like steel & aluminum. They work great for me.

Change of attitude.
First it was the MagPul MBUS backup sites. Sights should be iron (or steel or aluminum) not "plastic". But they works so well, and are reasonably priced. So when I learned my M&P15OR was coming this week, I ran out last weekend (to local gun show) and got a 2nd pair of MBUS for that. OK, MagPul got me on just the MBUS.

Then this week my M&P15OR came with a "plastic" mag. I was very disappointed. Oh well I can buy metal. But then I used the pMag. Sure works perfect. I like the strain relief for the top, and the way that clips to the bottom so you do not loose it. Darn mag was annoyingly good. So I stood in the local gun store, metal mil spec mag in one hand (as of last week, my favorite mag), and plastic pMag in the other. Then, it happened, I put down the metal mag and bought the pMag!!!! I think I muttered something like, it's a better mag???? I've heard of "drinking the MagPul KoolAid", but I did not realize the power they had. I just touched their products, and my view of life changes ("plastic mag = bad", becomes "pMags better than metal", .... I can't believe I just wrote that, I have guilt from writing that, but it's true, I think??.
So now I am collecting pMags, and you know what?, That MagPul MOE handguard looks nice, and at only $29, I think I'm going to have to ....

Remember from "The Graduate", "the future is plastics", I guess the MagPul guys paid attention, I did not:-) :-)

The logo on the mags doesn't make them work any better (or worse). You can get 5 free pmags from S&W if you purchased your S&W between certain dates, and from what I understand, the mags they send you are black and have the S&W logo on them. I 'm waiting for mine (five 30-round mags), but if you want to swap, I'd accept five FDE 30-round pmags in exchange.

M&P mags

The AR mags advertised on this forum by Brownells, 5 for $49, will work just fine and are a good deal. No, I don't work for Brownells.

The PMAGS are the best in my opinion. No issues with them to date. I have 5 of them and use them exclusively. The PMAG comparison vid made a believer out of me. No failures to feed to date and have cycled over 1000 rds on my fairly new M&P 15. The darn things are almost indestructible for civilian use. Not very many things will stand up to the weight and abuse by a Humvee!!!

While I am totally sold on MagPul magazines, I found their MOE hand guard wanting. It fit loose on my M&P15 and once I put a vertical grip on it (actually a Grip Pod), it was notably worse. I replaced it with a Troy drop in rail and never look back. Cost quite a bit more but it feels like it was welded in place, in comparison to the MOE.

YMMV
