I'm looking at getting the Magpul MOE Rifle stock for my M&P15OR I just purchased. I thought I read somewhere that the buffer tube on the New York regulation fixed "fake adjustable" stock was actually a rifle length tube, not a carbine length ( the stock requires a rifle length tube). Can anyone verify that?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You are correct. I was going to go with that same stock, but went with the CTR, pinned of course (I'm in MA). I like that it has the storage compartment on the MOE. F the AWB! :) So silly!

It's rifle length, but the spring and buffer are carbine. The inner portion is not drilled to rifle depth if you understand that?

Plan on buying a new buffer tube, and rifle spring/buffer.

I'm in MA and just went through this to put an A1 stock on mine

Aha! I didn't think that made a difference if the tube was the correct length. Thanks for the info.

Is this verified? No disrespect intended, but I also have a compliant, fixed stock OR, and one day will be replacing the stock too and would like to know for certain. My OR stock looks suspiciously like this Ace M4M (M4M) M4 Six Position Collapsable Modular Stock which is listed as commercial buffer tube compatible. Thanks.

Also, any suggestions on pinning a collapsible stock to make it compliant? I have an idea on what I want to do, but has anyone been through this already?

Yup, confirmed. Spring and buffer are carbine, but you'll need to replace to the tube. The stock tube is longer and doesn't have the slots to adjust it, at least it did on my Sport. I bought a DPMS tube and pinned a CTR. PM inbound on the pin.

Man am I glad I dont have to worry about this stuff, with the state compliant versions you guys confuse the heck out of me. I have tried to figure it out a couple of times. but like Peanut tells Jeff Dunham .... Zooooooom right over my head. LOL

Just to clarify my comment, the buffer tube is drilled internally for carbine spring and buffer. The buffer tube is unusable in any other configuration however. It does not have detente for position adjustment, is rifle length in total length, and the stock is actually screwed and pinned to it.

The spring and buffer are carbine, but nothing else is reusable. So count on buying a buffer tube for whatever stock you want to buy. You may also need rifle spring and buffer if you go with a stock requiring a rifle tube.

Hey all,

I am looking to install the Magpul MOE rifle stock on my pinned M&P 15-22. Could someone provide links to what I'll need for the buffer tube and anything else I'll need to complete the install? I just want to make sure I get the right stuff.

Thanks!

Thanks!

The 15-22 lower is proprietary. It does not use a standard AR-15 buffer tube. I believe it's either solid plastic or hollow plastic and is integral to the polymer lower. I remember when I had a 15-22, I was able to slip on a mil-spec Magpul MOE stock right on. You should be able to just install the Magpul MOE stock then pin it in place.

You might have more luck asking the knowledgeable members in the 15-22 sub forum.

I'm in MA so same as NY. Can you clarify what did you buy (or link) that I need to replace for a Magpul Stock or any other brand?

There's some confusion in these posts. The original question is about installing a MOE RIFLE stock, not a carbine style MOE. The Rifle stock is not adjustable and needs a Rifle length receiver extension, spring and buffer to install. The rifle length tube will be tapped on the end so you can screw the stock to the tube to hold it on the gun. I've got one on my M&P15 OR, it's a great setup.
