maintaining a Nickel revolver

I have numerous blue and SS revolvers however I just purchased my first Nickel gun. I have read to stay away from ammonia base a copper solvent cleaners. Will just plain gun oil like rem oil and a wiping with a silicone cloth damage the finish. Also any tips on cleaning that will not hurt the finish would be appreciated. Thanks and pls excuse my ignorance when it comes to nickel firearms.

avoid Hoppes

RemOil, breakfree, FP10, silicone cloth, all are OK for nickel finish. If you have some persistent residue buildup, try some M-Pro7 cleaner, wipe that all off when done scrubbing with soft cloth, toothbrush or other non-abrasive, then use your RemOil lightly, should be good to go. Remember that it is a plating, a thin coating, so don't get too rugged with the scrubbing/brushing.
The advice about avoiding ammonia compounds is good. And don't let it rest on bare wood, I have a speckle on the cylinder of a nickel plated snub which resulted from it being used as a bedside piece in a drawer, without protection. And don't leave it in a leather holster.

I'm in the same boat here - first nickel gun. It's mint, and I'd like to keep it that way. A bit confused after reading threads on here, especially when people start talking about wax and such. I like to clean mine after each range trip. I was planning on using some M-Pro cleaner (just because I've heard people talk about using this on nickel) followed by light oiling. Planning on using a soft microfiber cloth.

Is this too much? Not enough? Good idea? Bad idea?

I've also heard of people using polish, but I guess that would be pretty infrequent (ie, when it looks like it needs to be polished). What's all this waxing stuff?

I own two nickel 19's

I only use gun oil and a nylon toothbrush and a soft cloth to clean the
exterior surfaces.

I use hoppes 9 only for the bore and chambers.

After cleaning If the guns will be stored for a while I put on a light
coat of paste wax.

get a can of renaissance wax (available on ebay and other locations) works great on guns,leather,wood,marble,documents,photographs,etc.provides a great,protective finish...think of it like this...you dont wipe your car down with an oily rag to protect the finish...you wax it

I have always used paste wax on my nickle plated pistols with good results...Hoppes 9 for the bore but don't get it on the finish...

I just cleaned/polished the exterior of a 4" nickel M25 I recently picked up using Mother's Chrome Polish and it worked great. I went slow and easy but it really improved the finish
