Maker specfic- Heiser

Time to look at examples of another of the great Makers, Herman Heiser.

We are fortunate that our Moderator in this section is very knowledgeable about Heisers. If you have an interest in vintage holsters you should pick up a copy of the new book out on Heisers. Turnerriver is a major contributor to it.


Here are two to start, the left came with a 1911 but I am not sure if that is what it is designed for Basket weave marked #528 on back, & a floral tooled j frame with hammer protector.

Lee it does not get much better than that combo!

I do got to say though that that old Colt looks much better at the same age than its caretaker does.

Tony, thanks for the plug but let me say something about the book you refer to. Regrettably, the holster model numbers were transposed or reversed on many pages, as a result the holster information is largely inaccurate and not to be depended on. The information on Hermann Heiser and his family is interesting and, as far as I know accurate but the holster section is filled with errors. As a result I can't recommend it as a holster reference.
That being said here's a couple of Heisers.

I really, really, really like those flowered holsters. Need to keep my eyes peeled for an N-frame holster just like those.

The N-frame holsters are hard to come by. I'm just guessing,but it could well be that most revolvers of the period,other than the SAA, were made on a smaller frame,thus the preponderance of holsters for those guns. This is one of only a couple of holsters that I own which is actually marked for an N-frame. In this case,for a .38/.44 OD with a 6 1/2" bbl.

John please excuse my ill advised comment on the book. I just recently picked one up right in the middle of the move so did not look through it in close detail, just flipped through the nice holster images.

db I picked up one on Ebay and I can not call up the title at the moment but as soon as I find it in all of these boxes will let you know.

I think Heiser is one of the finest old makers around. I had one that I sold to a fellow member that had acquired a 3 1/2" Pre 27 that needed a classic old holster for it. I hope he doesn't mind my posting a picture for all's enjoyment.

My Grandpappy gave me a custom saddle for graduation from highschool.

I can remember going down to Denver, and the Heiser shop to put in my order and again to pick it up.. The smells in the show room and all of the holsters and other stuff was amazing.

Still have the saddle too.

Went over into the Nations last couple of days.........

............................and tripped over the best Holster I have ever found in many years of looking for them.

A full flap, floral tooled, laced edge Heiser with a matching cartridge belt.

Holster marked 731 and with pencil .45 Colt 7 & 1/2.

Will try to get better pic up tomorrow.
