Anyone familiar with work done by Mark Hartshorne at Pinnacle High Performance? I'm looking to have a barrel cut from 4" to 3", conversion from square butt to round butt, cylinder reamed, etc.

I just contacted him by phone yesterday, no response yet. He is probably busy, but I can wait since I've been talking about doing
this for 3 years or more. :D

I want him to cut one of my 681's to 3 inches, round butt, fit a 7 shot cylinder, mill the top of the barrel for a brass/gold bead sight, and whatever else I can think of.

Maybe slabside the barrel and/or crane ball lock.

I have recently talked to Mark and he currently has a turn around of about 90 days. He has a wonderful reputation and produces work that looks better than anything coming out of S&W's factory in the last 38 years. Note, what you're wanting done is going to run about $500 plus from any reputable gunsmith. Mark, even though he is one of the best, is very competitively priced with his work.

I'm sure he'll get back to me. The price of his work is fine with me.
One does not see 3 inch 7 shot 681's often. I have no interest in current factory L frame offerings.

Mark did some trigger work on a couple of single actions for me a while back. Couldn't be happier with the result. We spoke about what I wanted in the way of trigger pull and he nailed it.

Here is a 7 shot 686 converted by S&W. The barrel length reduction was done elsewhere. I sent it in for repair with the 6 shot cylinder as it wasn't cycling properly and the factory could not repair that cylinder and replaced it with a 7 shot. I was charged $275.oo. $95 for the cylinder and $135 for labor. It is flawless.

Just spoke with Mark, he's a great guy. He can't start until after the hew year but I'm in no rush. I'm sending it up to him tomorrow.

I can't wait to see what he comes up with for you. It seems like you have been wanting a 3" 681 for a while now....

Makes me kind of sad that I sold the 3" 681 7 shot that I had, but the ports were a turn-off at the time.

Scott,
Did the ported barrel have the same profile as the non ported one below on DHarts 681? They sold out of those barrels a few years back. Wish I knew about them.

Mike,

It was the PC quad port design. IIRC - the barrel was the normal shape/profile, just 3" with two oval ports each side of the front sight (about 1 & 11 o'clock). There may be some photos remaining here on the forum. If I can find a link to the thread (and it still has pics) I will shoot it over to you.

ETA - could not find my old pics (photobucket dump), but here is one that I swiped from the net.
