Hey, all, I have a beat up stainless Model 64, serial number D640XXX, with the sweetest trigger I have ever felt on a double action revolver. I've done a search but found no help with some markings on it. What are these?

On the frame above the crane hinge is MOD. 64. Just below the 6 is stamped a 1. Does that mean Model 64-1?

On the crane is 30790, and below that is a faint sideways S.

On the backstrap is SPP.

The 1 is likely an inspector's or fitter's stamp, as it doesn't match the other 5-digit number. The "SPP" is probably a police agency property stamp; all you have to do is figure out what SP means and you are in business :). Hope this is helpful.

Alan, thanks for the info. I guessed wrong about everything :o Maybe I ought to spend some money on books. :D
