Late yesterday afternoon Karli suggested it would be a great evening to shoot...we'd been working all day around the house and in the garden...so we met at the range.

For some reason I have not really made time to shoot my Marlin Mountie since I purchased it last Summer. I don't know why but I sure know it was a mistake! I had not run but a few rounds down the barrel since installing the peep sight...I installed the sight right after I bought it...so over a year ago.

So...I took it out last night along with a couple others.

Also took a slick Model 34-1 snubby with banana grips and my wife's Model 15-4. Heck I even ran three magazines through my CCW P3-AT!

It was fun. Karli & Jazper (the current range dog) kept me company while I sent let loose with a bunch of rim-fire and .38s.

Fun evening!

A FUN shooting rifle...this one manufactured in 1962.

Misty & pred,
Thanks for the kind words...Marlin 39As do have a great look and are even better at the range. Here the gun sits next to it's big brother...4" does make a difference!

I love my Marlin 39a Mountie. I do not have any good photos of it and Photobucket is down right now. Fun and accurate rifle.

Thanks for the great photos.

OCD1,
I also enjoy my Browning Semi-Auto .22...it pulls up real fast.

Here's a Marlin that was bought new by my Great Grandpa in 1892 and it's been in the family ever since. A Model 1889 .38 WCF (.38-40).

Not bad looking for a 117 year old gun and it still shoots as good today as the first time Great Grandpa shot it. The quality of the picture is not to good but anyway there it is.

The first time I shot the old gun it had been hanging in a gun rack for over 60 years without being fired and it was still right on the money at approx. 40 yards.

I took it to an SASS match one time and it feed the ammo without jamming during the whole match which is more than I can say for a lot of newer guns that were there that day.

Smitty,
Now that is a COOL old Marlin!! You are very lucky to have that family jewel! You still shoot it much?

OCD1,
Mossbergs...why of course....the more the better. Nice guns. Hard not to enjoy lots of rimfire pictures!!

Here's another...a trifecta...Browning Semi-Auto...Winchester 9422 & Marlin 39A all hangin' out together...

Nice guns Pete! I had a Buckmark for years...I kinda miss it now! But I'm not having much trouble finding guns to shoot...just ammo and primers!

Hi VonFatman,
I'm not sure of the date.
I wish I knew for sure. It looks like one my older brother had in the early 60's.
My newly purchased one has a S/N prefix of '47xxx'.

I was visting my local shop looking for some S&W's when I saw the Marlin39a
and a Remington Nylon 66 Apache.

I ended up purchasing both for a reasonable price for nostalgia when I wa a teen.

Your range time reminds me of a haunting problem that has plagued me since I was a kid. Which do I like more - the Mountie or the 39A? Which to buy, to have, to shoot? I finally got both - it was the only solution. But now what - shoot the lever guns or the Winchester pump? Maybe my first love, the Save 24s. It never goes away... what to do, what to do?

An old man told me years ago that a 39 Marlin wouldn't always shoot where you wanted, but you could bet it shot where you held it. Mine Mountie was bought in 1964 and I put a K2.5 glass eye on it. I am planing for my 11 yr. old grandson to have it. Larry

Hi OldFella,
Thank you for the link.

My FFL Dealer may have written a incomplete S/N
on my Invoice. They did not write down a prefixed Alpha Character.

I'll re-check again when I pick-up my two .22 rifles on Saturday.

586L-Frame,
Wow! You got both heh? Nice, very nice indeed. Pete got you the link for the manufacture date, you will soon know it's birthday. Congrats on the nice purchase.

S/W - Lifer,
That's a nice problem to have! I do not have any pump .22s...wish I had a 64!

Larry,
Your grandson is a lucky boy...that's a wonderful hand-me-down! My Marlins and 9422 shoot straight and true...the 9422 actually shoots a bit tighter than either Marlin.

Pete,
Thanks for posting the link...I was about to dig that up when I saw you had the situation well in hand.

Hi VonFatman,
Yes, I was lucky to find two on my wish list.
The Marlin 39a and the Remington Nylon 66 Apache.

To save on Dros, the staff at the shop tried to convince me to purchase
two other .22 rifles that I was drooling over, but I told them I'll sleep
on it.

The other two where....
Winchester 03 Semi-Auto .22 Rifle
and a Browning Semi-Auto 22 Grade I takedown .22 Rifle.
