I work on guns and have a faq sticky in the smithing section, which does cover removing the lock.
FAQ's
I have posted a conversion method on this site that removes all the lock parts and replaces the lock cylinder with a screw, if one desires such a conversion.
Remove the lock!
Massad Ayood is highly respected and his opinions matter with me. With that said, I have sold off both my revolvers with internal lock and ordered the no lock models for concealed carry.
Guns for sport are one matter and guns for personal protection are another.
This link will help you decide if it's "worth it" to remove the lock for personal protection.
