So I go to the grocery store and come home to...

A MASTIFF IN THE DOWNSTAIRS BATHROOM.

1. How does one lose a mastiff?

2. What makes teens think they can HIDE a mastiff?

3. Anybody want a sweet, blind, female mastiff?
 
Don't knowing what a mastiff is I can't say if I want a teenaged Mastiff or not. I have been out to the parenting game for several years now. I am into grand parenting at this point in my life. If fact I am with my 16 and 15 year old granddaughters now. Both sweet, smart and pretty. Now if you want to sweeten the deal with a nice S&W pistol I might consider taking your Mastiff for a while.

Back when We had teenaged boys I thought the best way to raise teenagers would be to dig a pit line it with concrete, feed them twice a day, hose them down a couple times a week. when they reached 22 years old turn them lose. Or just getting a shock collar for when they mouth off.

I was never voted father of the year. But I have a better idea of why some animals eat their young.

A mastiff is a very large dog. If you've seen Turner and Hooch, you've seen a mastiff.
 
I dunno. How does one lose a critter that big? :confused:
My neighbor used to have one. Good dog, but a little drooly. The problem was the poor thing didn't know his own strength. He could just brush up against somebody as he was passing by and knock you dead on your rump. He could just be playing and accidently break stuff.

No thanks, I don't want her. I don't think I can afford to feed her! :eek:
 
So, what did the kids say when you found it?:eek: They are great dogs, I take it she's older. Mastiffs normaly live 7-9 years. No tags or anything?

I don't think Missy, Pooch, Ralph, Millicent, and Sylvie would approve.......but if we were closer we'd think about it!
 
My wife loves those big, ugly drool machines. Luckily she hates to clean house, so any really drooly dog is out.

Mastiffs are generally gentle giants, however with all that body mass they can knock the **** out of you and your house without trying.
 
ROFL!! Methinks you have a FAR too interesting home life. IIRC, this is not the first time your kids have come home with an extra lodger.

Similar story. Guy here in Vegas goes to visit his mum in her apartment complex. As it is spring and she is expecting him, Ma has left the door to the apartment open. Guy finds mum in the family room and they chat. Ma says, "Son, while you're here, feed the dogs for me. I'm a bit tired." Son duly goes to the kitchen and is heard getting out dog food and rinsing bowls. "Hey, Ma, when did you get the husky?"

Yep, my friend Brandy's wandering husky had made himself at home with no fuss from the residents. It was not the first or last time from what I hear.
 
You're a good person Cap. I take it they said buy lots and lots and LOTS of dog food? I'm sure they will learn rather quickly what the byproduct of a big dog is.....
 
No, steve, not the first time and I am sure it won't be the last. I suppose I have taught them too well to be kind.
 
Mastiffs were war dogs. Cortes used them against the Aztecs. They were pretty frightening to encounter.

I suspect that whoever owned this dog wanted to dump it on someone else to put it out of its misery. It's a pity, but probably true. If you keep it at home and it's blind, it is going to make a real mess of your possessions. It may injure a member of your family, even if accidentally. I know it will be hard, but you need to call the pound or have a vet put it down. The owner probably just didn't have the responsibility to do that. So, in their sentiment, they made this someone else's problem. I'm sorry that it became yours.
 
If no one responds to the Lost.Found ad by tomorrow, I am contacting Jurassic Bark (the giant dog breed rescue org here in town)

I am all too aware that by the looks of her she was likely used up by a backyard breeder and then turned out to die or be someone else's problem when she was no longer profitable.

I LIKE your kids. Lots of fun mixed with a good heart.

If she's like the one on Turner and Hooch she's a Bordeaux Mastiff.

Check her for a chip, Hopefully she's just an escapee and someone is looking for their baby.

I about peed myself when he said he was giving a reward because she would cost about $2500.

We are actually looking for a mastiff puppy. Found a Cane Corso breeder. $1500.00 for a puppy.

The Cane Corso was a Roman war dog.

Glad to hear all worked out well for everyone. Sometimes good deeds are rewarded.

Thankfully, all that has been dumped on our doorstep out in the country, is a couple of cats. Tney don't eat nearly as much as a Mastiff. And they earn their keep taking out mice and gophers.

1500 for a mastiff is cheap.

this dog's pups ran from $2500 to $3300, she's a Neopolitan Mastiff.
