Matthew Quigley, Our New Pup! [UPDATED 4/13/25]

Greetings,

For our wedding anniversary I acquired a new eight-week old pup. He is an Australian Shepherd.

We Christened him "Matthew Quigley" and we'll call him "Quigley". He is already a good truck dog and behaved perfectly on the long drive back from the breeder.

He came from a farm, raised in a barn with goats and chickens and has seven siblings and too many big dogs to count. Life here in the "big city" will take some getting used to I'm sure.

I surprised my wife with Quigley and she fell in love with him immediately with tear filled eyes. Quigley has already bonded with her and he seems to prefer females over me!

My last dog, Cool-Hand-Luke, died in 2014 and I was simply away from home too much to properly work-with and train a new dog. I just retired and I finally have the time to raise and train a pup.

It feels great to be back in the K9 business!

Now I may be partial , but My Aussie is the prettiest . She's our third , and you can't ask for a smarter dog . Two of her sisters came to visit , quite the party !

Looks excellent. Once you get him on his way to sound behavior for your lifestyle, he needs a sister. We have not done well with more than 2 dogs, but a well bonded pair (to both us and each other) is a joy.

Australian Shepherd

They are fantastic dogs, extremely loyal, and always wanting to please. This is our 6yr old tri-brown "Buddy" sleeping over the A/C floor vent.

I guess that makes him a Canadian Aussie ? Dual citizenship ? I was at our groomer this morning who happens to own Nalah's mom . She is breeding her with an AKC Champion . Pria (the mom ) placed at Westminster last year . Both have star studded lineage . Anyways , looks like I may get another one . We have another dog , 1/2 Aussie , 1/2 Collie . So I guess we will be a 3 dog family soon .

Quigley Update:

All is well. He's gonna be a smart one. He already returns when you call him. He wants to herd us when we walk.

This is the best transition for a new pup that I've ever experienced. I just sleep on the couch and he crawls under it and about every two hours through the night he checks on me, then goes back to sleep. No whining or crying.

One beautiful dog ! All of mine have laid like that . Does he splay his legs out behind him ? There's a name for it , but I've forgot it . As you can tell , I have a soft spot for these dogs .
