Saga of the missing Daisy! CHAPTER 3 & 4 - the final chapter

I would have loved to hear their answer to Faulkner's question when they were down at the station.

The FIRST thing any legitimate animal rescuer does is look for a collar with a name, address and phone number or a rabies tag that can be used to trace the owner. Second is a micro-chip scan.
These woman have ZERO defense to this, they were simply stealing the dog.

Let’s say just for the sake of argument that they found the dog in the woods, or road or ditch. A simple check of her collar would have identified her owner.

I am a forum bleeding heart and this pair would be singing “In The Jailhouse Now” for 60-90 days “as a terror to other evildoers” like I read in an old case once.

I have been following your posts on Daisy since she was pup - I even copied an early picture because I thought she was so cute. One of my dogs in recent years was a border collie mix; one of the best dogs we've ever had the pleasure to know and keep.

My heart went out to you when I first started reading these posts; I could only imagine the sense of loss you must have felt.

Great happy ending! Thanks for the story.

John

Very glad you got her back Faulkner! In the state of North Carolina dog theft IS a felony! ;)

There is (from 1879) also a misdeameanor unauthorized use of a dog in N.C. (temporary taking or using without owners permission).

§ 14-82. Taking horses, mules, or dogs for temporary purposes.
If any person shall unlawfully take and carry away any horse, gelding, mare, mule, or dog,the property of another person, secretly and against the will of the owner of such property, with
intent to deprive the owner of the special or temporary use of the same, or with the intent to use such property for a special or temporary purpose, the person so offending shall be guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor. (1879, c. 234, s. 1; Code, s. 1067; Rev., s. 3509; 1913, c. 11; C.S., s.4261; 1969, c. 1224, s. 3; 1989, c. 773, s. 3; 1994, Ex. Sess., c. 14, s. 3.3.)

I am happy to hear of Daisy's safe return.
I would bet money these women were going to sell your dog. Why
else were they 100 miles away driving around looking for lost dogs?
That story is full of holes and not to be believed. You are just really
lucky they stopped in the local town.
Another thing is dog fighters use to steal dogs just to have their
pit bulls fight and kill them.
The sheriff should have questioned them as to the rescues they worked
with and gave them a call to see if that was true. If they were unknown
to any of these rescues, then we have shot down that story. At the very least a hefty fine, car towed to an impound lot, another $250. Is
your place posted? Criminal trespass while a thief was in progress.
And it doesn't matter what you gave for Daisy, it's what she is worth.
My suggestion is throw the book at these so called, "ladies".
